Job Summary
The CCA is an institution responsive to the cultural content of our time, fueling crucial conversation with the audience. The CCA Programs division researches and organizes exhibitions and public programs as a form of cultural production to suggest new perspectives for architecture debate as catalyst for original inquiry. The Public programs of CCA is meant to diversify and strengthen the institution\'s audience.

The responsibilities of this job are to carry out the vision, the strategic design, development and management of all the public programs at CCA, including all the activities that reach the different audiences both in the physical building and online. The incumbent manages and provides strategic leadership and critical thinking for the Public Programs team and works with the Associate Director Programs and the CCA Director, as well as senior management to define the institution\'s wide policies, goals and priorities for the Programs division.

Main Job Responsibilities
Strategic and Curatorial:

  • Develops and implements a strategic long-term plan for public programs that reflects the contemporary architecture world\'s viewpoints, skill sets and bases of knowledge linked to the idea of establishing conversation with the audience
  • Develops and produces original programs able to transfer to local and international audiences aligned with the CCA curatorial mission
  • Produces and assists the production of dynamic and multidisciplinary programs related to the CCA content direction, including lectures, public programs, Research seminars, symposium, school sessions, tours, workshops and any special events for the museum (i.e. Parc Baile Summer Festivals, Nuit Blanche etc.)
  • Involves innovative formats to assure an intelligent fit between the content development and the audience to reach, both in the activities held in the building and online, demonstrating eagerness to develop new modes and languages for working that are respondent to our specific place and time around the topic the institution is concerned with
  • Conducts research, develops content and ensures that there is consistency between Public programs and other CCA activities and divisions (Publications, Collection, Research)
  • Contributes to the publishing activities of CCA as key author, essayist or editor as appropriate (online, digital and printed publications)
  • Represents the Museum and its mission, goals, and audience\'s philosophy in public moment, conferences locally and internationally
Collaborative management and supervision:
  • Manages and coordinates the Public Programs team enabling conditions for content production by members of Program Assistants group
  • Manages and facilitates the coordination of Public components of cross-divisional projects
  • Works as a team with Digital and Outreach, Collection and Publications Divisions to create a consistent visitor experience to foster access to CCA\'s content while developing a common language (a \xe2\x80\x9cCCA voice\xe2\x80\x9d)
  • Collaborates with the Digital and Outreach team on producing a robust marketing plan to communicate the vision of the institution\'s Public Programs
  • Collaborates with Publications and Web team to reach the online public and transfer knowledge with new media, and other technology
  • Assists the Development department in targeting grants, private funding and non-traditional programming support
  • Identifies, cultivates, and maintains key strategic relations with individuals, institutions and organizations that can support the CCA in its mission community; forms strategic alliances with teachers and strengthens relationships with faculty at local universities through curriculum sharing or other joint projects
  • Designs and conducts internal, content-based training for all staff in collaboration with People and Culture that enrich staff understanding of contemporary architecture and culture, encouraging open dialogue about curatorial programming
  • Assists Associate Director, Programs in defining the budget for the Public Programs
  • Works with Administrative and Project Coordinator Programs providing guidance to budget management.
  • Develops and implements evaluation tools to measure success of projects connected to this position, including ongoing visitor assessment, data collection, and improvement of the visitor experience
Decision-making and Autonomy
High Level of Decision Making and Autonomy: Curator Public is responsible of management of external relationships with guests and of detailed productions of events. Required Qualifications
  • Education: Master in architecture, education, museum studies or a related field
  • Number of years of relevant experience: 5 years in museum or arts education with supervisory experience
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written French and English
  • Excellent interpretive, writing, presentation/public speaking, and communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent at managing a team and delegating tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and ability to work on a team. Thorough understanding of key institutional aspects.
  • Good knowledge of the discourse about contemporary architecture and culture, landscape and urbanism, and knowledgeable about new media and technologies and is at the forefront of the current form of interaction with audience.
  • Creative and innovative
  • Ability to design and implement public programs that engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work productively with diverse constituencies, including schools, community agencies, institutions and the public
  • Strong interest and experience in engaging with the urban population and landscape
  • Skilled at producing large and small-scale events and projects
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the means of the museum
  • Strong organizational, planning, and teaching skills
  • Flexible schedule (evening and weekend work required)
