:POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Cultural Development, Community Programming & Events Supervisor, the Cultural Development & Public Art Coordinator is responsible for implementation of the Inspire Thunder Bay Culture Plan, administration of the Public Art Program and management of the City of Thunder Bays art collection.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates as a member of the Sections service delivery team to carry out the goals and objectives of the Section and Division.
  • Develops and implements short and long-term implementation plans, projects, initiatives and programs to meet the objectives of the Council-adopted Inspire Thunder Bay Culture Plan.
  • Supervises program & service staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching/mentoring, health and safety, discipline and termination decisions.
  • Conducts research, policy, and statistical analysis on the cultural sector in Thunder Bay; researches and recommends opportunities for cultural development, partnerships, and collaboration.
  • Serve as a staff liaison on various committees including but not limited to Heritage Advisory Committee, Clean, Green & Beautiful.
  • Works with Section staff to develop and coordinates direct delivery of cultural events, meetings, workshops and programs; coordinates the annual Thunder Bay Arts & Heritage Awards Gala and Culture Days weekend.
  • Works with community members and groups to develop and promote community-based cultural events, meetings, workshops and opportunities. Attends meetings with community arts and heritage groups and advisory committees, as required.
  • Develops and implements the City of Thunder Bays public art program; manages the Citys art collection; coordinates the review and update of the Citys public art policy and the development of a public art master plan.
  • Administers public art competitions and projects and the Citys art collection in consultation with the Public Art Committee.
  • Recommends and develops appropriate guidelines, procedures, and budgets for public art commissions and competitions by other City departments; works with other departments on implementation of these projects.
  • Hires and supervises contractors to complete installation, conservation, and maintenance work on city public art pieces; provides technical direction and guidance to temporary Program staff.
  • Develops promotional materials and content such as media releases, posters and brochures, reports and presentations, and content for online and print publications.
  • Prepares applications for funding, awards and project opportunities.
  • Prepares and administers the annual operating budgets for cultural development, the Trunk, and public art in consultation with Supervisor; records and pays third-party services; seeks sponsorship, funding and donations as required.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:
  • Degree in a related discipline such as cultural planning, arts administration, history, anthropology, museum studies, or visual arts with two years experience working with community and cultural sector; or
  • Diploma in a related discipline such as cultural planning, arts administration, history, anthropology, museum studies, or visual arts with four years experience working with community and cultural sector; and
  • Knowledge of the cultural sector; knowledge of various artistic styles, methods, and mediums;
  • Experience in community development, working with artists, marketing, social media management, programming, museum or gallery collection management, working with contractors and administration are required
Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have excellent organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Assets:
  • Knowledge of InMagic collection management software; use of GPS equipment and mapping
  • Knowledge of web editing and content management systems
  • Knowledge of Thunder Bays cultural sector
  • Knowledge of care and conservation of various types of art; knowledge of artistic styles and mediums
  • Knowledge of the functions of City departments, outside boards and local community groups
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful drivers record (uncertified)
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, and off site as required
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
