Job Summary: The Cultural Advisor assists in the inclusion of Indigenous content and perspectives at Oskayak High School with the goal to create culturally responsive learning environments and improve student learning outcomes. Oskayak High School follows plains Cree cultural traditions.

Required Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Powwow traditions, arts and protocols

• Knowledge and experience with First Nations spiritual-cultural teachings and ceremony. Ability to provide or facilitate First Nations cultural teachings including singing, dance, cultural arts and land-based teachings. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in the areas of women's traditional teachings

• Grade 12 or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants with additional post-secondary training (e.g., social work or Indigenous studies)
• Two years of experience in a related area (e.g., community organizations or social justice)
• Strong understanding of First Nations' culture, languages, histories, traditions, values, and perspectives
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous practices to assist Elders and Cultural Leaders
• Good working relationships with existing First Nations and Metis cultural agencies
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all levels of staff within schools, partnership organizations and with First Nations and Metis families and communities
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Intermediate computer skills including email, internet, and Microsoft Office
• Possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• As per Collective Agreement
• 6.0 hrs/day
• To begin a.s.a.p. and continue to June 29, 2023, or earlier if the needs of the division change
• Salary range - $23.54 - $27.82 per hour
