Job Description

The Cultivation Labour Manager is responsible for overseeing an efficient and effective workforce, including all jobs from propagation through plant out and harvest. Reporting to the Senior Cultivation Manager, and leads the Cultivation Team (Supervisors, Team Leads, Technicians, and Crop Labourers) in the pursuit of safety, compliance, quality, and yield. This position is hands on, with a focus on the development and documentation of labour practices, co-ordination of all greenhouse activities, and performance assessment of the Cultivation Team.

Key

Responsibilities:



Teamwork




Foster a positive work environment and lead by example. Motivate and inspire the greenhouse labor team, encouraging teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Lead the supervisory team in their duties, assigning supervisors and team leads to tasks while giving feedback and working to improve their performance.

Safety



Work to build a safety conscious culture. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment. Train employees on safety protocols and provide guidance to minimize accidents and injuries.

Labour

tracking



Develop and use a labour tracking system to monitor and develop consistency and efficiency in the work force. Train team members on the correct use of this system, and provide guidance for their development in understanding, tracking, and optimizing labour use.

Planning and Managing

Cropwork



Direct the work of greenhouse laborers, assigning tasks, providing training, and monitoring performance to ensure productivity and quality standards are met. Develop and implement regular and standardized plans for greenhouse activities, including daily crop work requirements, goals, and deadlines. Schedule and ensure that the correct number of individuals are available for work each day, including hourly employees, farm labour contractors, and temporary foreign workers.

Cropwork

Standardization & Quality Improvement



Develop a standard crop work strategy with the aim of increasing plant health, flower quality, work efficiency, and job satisfaction. Implement quality control procedures to maintain the highest standards of work, site appearance, and batch uniformity.

Documentation



Maintain accurate records of compliance documentation, production activities, crop data, labor hours, inventory levels, and other data. Ensure compliance with the requirements for growing and selling cannabis. Generate reports on greenhouse operations. Understand and provide regular updates these activities.

Plant Health



Regularly inspect plants to identify and monitor for health, pests, and diseases. Work with the Integrated Pest Management team to track these issues. Implement directives to improve these areas and accurately report plant health from clone to harvest.

Collaboration



Work with other departments including maintenance, quality, processing, and engineering to achieve organization wide goals. Ensure the cultivation team is reporting issues in a positive, collaborative, and timely manner.

Inventory Control



Monitor and manage inventory levels of supplies and consumables and materials. Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of required resources. Ensure that plant inventories are correct and up to date.

Qualifications & Experience:



Minimum 5 years of experience leading cultivation or greenhouse labour teams, ideally within cannabis, horticulture, or agriculture. Proven ability to manage large, diverse teams including supervisors, leads, and temporary foreign workers. Hands-on experience with crop work planning and scheduling from propagation through harvest. Strong knowledge of plant health, cultivation practices, and pest and disease monitoring. Experience developing and implementing labour tracking systems to measure productivity and efficiency. Excellent documentation and reporting skills, with attention to compliance and detail. Demonstrated ability to foster a positive, safe, and team-oriented work environment. Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional departments such as IPM, maintenance, and processing. Comfortable working in a physically demanding, high-paced greenhouse environment with variable conditions
