JOB SUMMARY:




As an On-Site Culinary Farmhand and Farm Store Assistant you will be responsible for managing various aspects of our farm store operations while also showcasing some culinary expertise through on-site food preparation. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in farmers markets and assist with market gardening activities as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Create Unique Culinary Offerings:

Develop creative recipes and dishes using farm-fresh ingredients to showcase the farm's produce and products (i.e. soups, salads, condiments, etc.).

Food Preparation:

Prepare meals, snacks, and baked goods on-site, maintaining high standards of quality, flavour, and presentation.

Culinary Events:

Host cooking demonstrations, tasting events, and farm-to-table dinners to engage customers and promote farm products.

Kitchen Management:

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen space, adhering to food safety protocols and sanitation standards.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with farm staff to coordinate harvesting schedules and ensure a steady supply of fresh ingredients for culinary creations.

Manage the inventory

- Review inventory ensuring that the store has enough stock to meet customer demand. This involves tracking inventory levels and ordering products as needed.

Assists with sales strategies

- analyze sales data to identify trends and assist in developing strategies to increase sales and profits.

Set pricing

- assist with pricing of products sold in the store and adjust prices as needed to remain competitive.

Provide customer service

- interact with customers to ensure their satisfaction, address complaints, and answer questions.

Coordinate events

- assist with organizing events such as farmer's markets or special promotions to attract customers.

Maintain store appearance

- responsible for ensuring that the store is clean, organized, and attractive to customers.

Stay up-to-date on industry trends

- stay informed about the latest industry trends, innovations, and regulations to ensure that the store remains competitive and compliant.

Ensure compliance with regulations

- ensuring that the store complies with all applicable regulations, such as food safety regulations.

Build relationships with suppliers

- assist in building relationships with suppliers to ensure that the store has access to high-quality products at competitive prices.

Manage On-line sales orders and farm memberships

- assist with ensuring that the website and online farm store is operational, orders are being received and processed, memberships are updated and maintained with continuous "value added" services being provided.

Order fulfillment

- pack and prepare customer orders ensuring quality, accuracy, and proper packaging for products and/or produce.

Food preparation and preservation

-processing, preserving, and preparing seasonal produce and meats using safe and effective methods such as canning, freezing, fermenting, and vacuum sealing. The role ensures that foods are properly handled, packaged, and stored to maintain quality, flavor, and shelf stability. Additional duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities for Farmers Market Booth:



Event Preparation:

Participate in farmers market events, including transportation of products, setup, and signage.

Product Presentation:

Ensure attractive display of farm products at the booth, highlighting their freshness and quality to attract customers.

Customer Engagement:

Interact with farmers market attendees, providing product information, offering samples, and answering questions about the farm and its offerings.

Cash Handling:

Process transactions accurately and securely, handling cash and electronic payments with integrity and professionalism.

Event Cleanup:

Break down the booth at the end of farmers market events, ensuring proper storage of equipment and products.

Additional Responsibilities for Market Gardener:



Assist with various aspects of the market garden and/or greenhouse operations, including

planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops

Harvest and Packaging

- Wash station setup and operation, Harvest dates and crop specific procedures for washing, drying, packaging, storage temperatures, and duration

QUALIFICATIONS:



Culinary experience and creativity, with a passion for farm-to-table cuisine.

Excellent customer service skills Responsible, self-motivated, organized and able to work alone/unsupervised if necessary Good organizational and planning skills Ability to perform physically demanding tasks

Proficiency with computers and retail management software

Proven experience in retail management, preferably in a farm or agricultural setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in inventory management Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:




This is a light-to-medium physically demanding position that occasionally requires helping with other farm-related duties and the ability to perform manual labor tasks. If you meet the qualifications and are passionate about organic food and working with the public, we encourage you to apply.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:




The position requires work indoors (retail store environment) & outdoors (farmers markets, produce booth, etc.) in all types of weather conditions, as well as some exposure to indoor farm facilities such as barns and workshops.
