Position Responsibilities
Culinary Arts within the School of Trades and Technology seeks applications from qualified candidates to fill a full-time position for the up-coming 2025 Fall term (start date, mid-August).
The Culinary Arts Diploma program is delivered at RDP's main campus utilizing the Cornerstone Dining Room. Through a variety of diverse culinary activities we provide students hands-on practical experience affording them opportunities to enter the professional food services sector with applicable and relevant attributes. Practical applied knowledge and industry relevant skills are taught in an active kitchen environment. These valuable qualities are reinforced with applied industry experience through work-integrated-learning (WIL) Co-Op work placements. The diversity of learning activities provide RDP Culinary graduates strong desirability with employers throughout Central Alberta and beyond.
The successful applicant will bring significant knowledge of classic & contemporary cooking techniques through diverse cuisines. They will be familiar with current industry trends and have a broad knowledge of diverse ingredients and their applications. Candidates must demonstrate a strong background in multiple areas of commercial food service including, hot kitchen, cold kitchen, banqueting, meat cutting and baking/pastry. Those candidates with previous post-secondary teaching experience will be given advanced standing.
Excellent communication skills are expected for effective knowledge transfer of industry standards and techniques to learners from diverse backgrounds. Instructors will participate in the design, development, and delivery the RDP Culinary Arts Diploma program. The program is delivered in a full-time linear model of twenty-five instructional hours per week across four fifteen-week terms. The Co-op work placement in the third term requires that the faculty member will maintain regular communication and support remotely, and on-site at student work placements. This is a hands-on role with strong emphasis on techniques and methodologies through technical delivery and demonstration; followed by applied skills practice, assessment, and effectively communicated feedback. In addition to the cooking components, the successful candidate must demonstrate effective teaching of basic kitchen mathematics including recipe costing & conversions, yields, and measurement standards, as well as food safety and food service business acumen.
Instructors are responsible for the development, delivery, assessment, and recording/reporting of all learner activities. Support to carry out activities of the requisite program outline are supported by program assistants and the department Chair of Culinary Arts.

Required Qualifications
Journeyperson Certificate with Red Seal or Culinary Arts diploma with relevant experience
Minimum 5 years of progressive professional cooking experience with evolving supervisory roles
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Effective time management and organizational skills
Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
Valid Driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:Experience teaching post-secondary learners through both in-person and online formats

Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year general holidays.
This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
