The CTS Events Technician provides the delivery, set-up, operations and strike of multi-media equipment and systems for conferences, talks and performance events. The CTS Events Technician sets up and operates audio visual equipment which includes working with projection systems, IP based AV control systems, audio mixers, speakers, microphones, computers, lighting and video conferencing, streaming and recording equipment. Events may be held off-site or within the University. Events are often during evenings and weekends. The CTS Events Technician works with various university departments and with outside groups in pre-production planning of events. The CTS Events Technician works directly with presenters, talent and performers to maintain the flow during events.

Some Typical Duties:

  • Ensures equipment is booked, picked up and set up on time and in a safe manner with user ease in mind. Operates equipment during events and safely dismantles and packs equipment for transport.
  • Provides follow-up communication with event organizer on technical requests. Confirms technical set-up and tear-down times. May provide clarification or information on university equipment and software to event organizers.
  • Corrects equipment faults prior to or during event to ensure smooth operation of multi-media equipment and systems. Directs complex equipment problems to CTS Production Lead and Senior Events Technician.
  • Work in other production capacities including sound, lighting, stage management and house management as required.
  • Attends meetings with various university departments in pre-production planning and works directly with presenters, talent and performers to maintain the flow during events.
  • Supervises and directs work of student monitors and volunteers for events.
  • Assists and advises internal and external clients to ensure that their needs are met within the terms of their event contract while ensuring that the theatre, building and campus policies, rules and safety regulations are adhered to.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



Required Qualifications
  • Two years post-secondary training in audio visual or media related field.
  • One year of field-based event technology experience in the following areas: Hotel Audio Visual, Ministry, College AV or Media Department, Technical Theatre Department, AV Integration.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge and troubleshooting skills required in operating audio, video, IP based AV control systems and lighting for events.
  • Technical aptitude for operating computer hardware (Windows, OS) and software (PowerPoint, Keynote).
  • Strong skills in sound set ups: wiring, isolating noise, balancing and tuning audio for optimum sound presentation and recording.
  • Experience operating video streaming, recording and conferencing systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity.
  • Effective communication skills with ability to understand client needs and to accept direction.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure and act quickly resolving technical issues.
  • Dependability, punctuality and follow-through.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and carry10kg and to work at heights.
