: Langara College Continuing Studies is accepting applications for temporary part-time instructors to teach a course in the fall term (SCLP 1103), beginning September 5, 2023 (8-week course, 25 hours total).

Successful candidates will provide instruction to students in the Supply Chain and Logistics Post-Degree Diploma program.

Applicants should have subject-matter expertise and industry experience in one or more areas of Supply Chain Management: Purchasing and Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, or Operations.

Candidates will prepare and deliver instruction to adult students who have completed undergraduate degrees. Preference will be given to industry-experienced applicants who have credentials and/or relevant degrees. Demonstrated training experience in professional or higher-education settings is preferred. Experience teaching or training groups of International students in post-secondary education would be valuable for this role.

Classes will be scheduled on a weekly basis during the daytime, 8 weeks per term with about 3-hours per week of teaching. Course delivery will be in-person at the Langara College main campus in Vancouver, BC.

Course Preparation, delivery, and administrative duties

  • Updates the course structure, teaching methods and evaluation tools as necessary
  • Selects and applies appropriate resources to enhance curriculum delivery
  • Delivers the curriculum in accordance with the course outline
  • Develops and/or revises curriculum in consultation with the Program Manager as required
  • Maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge of assigned subject areas
  • Facilitates the achievement of course learning outcomes and the educational goals of the students
  • Creates an environment conducive to purposeful learning and positive interaction
  • Monitors student performance and provides constructive feedback to the students throughout the duration of the learning process
  • Conducts and grades course exams, quizzes, assignments, and student project grading as required
  • Advises students and provides additional learning assistance and support as needed
  • Maintains daily student grading records and grades submissions
Performs other duties related to a teaching environment as needed * Sets and models a high standard of professional behaviour
  • Adheres to the Policies and Procedures of Langara College
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students and the community at large
  • Participates in scheduled meetings and appropriate college-related activities as requested by the Program Manager.
Qualifications Required

Education & Experience
  • A Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in appropriate discipline from an accredited university or license/designation in a Supply Chain Management related discipline.
  • In some programs, a Bachelor degree in a related discipline may be acceptable.
  • Relevant professional certification is required [e.g. SCMP, APICS, CIFFA, CCLP-CITT, CITP, P.Log, CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist)].
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience working in a relevant professional role is expected.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a similar course or related subject in a post-secondary institution is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in writing and verbally is required.
  • Experience in implementing course materials/curriculum
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary adult-education principles.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills for classroom and online instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Adult Learning Principles is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of a Learning Management Platform for online (Brightspace by D2L) course-resource support is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests or complaints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people who have limited English language proficiency.
Salary: Hourly wage may vary depending on position and professional experience (e.g., $90-$105/hour).

Scheduling: Daytime in-person classroom teaching at Langara College main campus. Course scheduling may vary from term to term.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0.35

Hours may vary according to the needs of the department.
