Job Description


OverviewThis position is located in Inuvik, NT, and the successful candidate would have to live/relocate to Inuvik. This is NOT a rotational position or camp job.This is Journeyperson level work in the repair and maintenance of electrical generation and control equipment, along with auxiliary equipment such as electric motors, transformers, relays, electronic governors, voltage regulators, and other NWTPC electrical systems in diesel, gas, wind and /or hydro generating stations. All work shall be carried out in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and Northwest Territories Power Corporation policies and standards. Previous experience related to installing and commissioning diesel gensets rated 75 kW and above is also required. This position has the responsibilities of a Crew Leader, in addition to the responsibilities of the Journeyperson Electrician.ResponsibilitiesIt shall be the duty of a Crew Leader, under the general direction of their Manager, to supervise the work of the employees and contractors under their charge in such a manner that work shall be carried out safely, efficiently, and expeditiously. The duties and responsibilities of a Crew Leader include such activities as:

  • Maintains and repairs all electrical systems, AC and DC single phase and three phase electric motors and assists with scheduled overhauls of diesel and gas electric generation sets. Planned maintenance includes, but is not limited to, cleaning and testing of windings, exciter diode bridges, replacement of bearings and checking and torqueing of wire and cable connections.
  • Maintains and repairs auxiliary generator equipment and devices. Planned maintenance includes, but is not limited to, calibration of automatic and manual voltage regulators, generator protection devices, metering and cleaning and checking all wiring and terminations in generator control cubicles. Setting and adjustment of electronic governors is also required.
  • Calibration of all engines mounted alarm, indication and shutdown devices, as well as cleaning and checking all wiring and relays in engine control cabinets.
  • Maintenance and repairs to high and low voltage switchgear and breakers. This involves cleaning breaker circuits and motor control centres, cleaning and calibration of high voltage breakers, torquing buss bar bolts and checking wiring and terminations.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical systems associated with NTPC\xe2\x80\x99s wind turbine based in Inuvik. Duties include AC and DC single phase and three phase electric motors, planned maintenance includes, but is not limited to, cleaning and testing of windings, inspecting and testing of electrical equipment, voltages range from 24V to 25KV, checking and torque of wire and cable connections
  • Maintenance and repairs to Corporation buildings (heating, air conditioning, fire alarms, lighting, etc.). You may be required to install circuitry in buildings or pieces of equipment, which may require the use of tech cable or conduit.
  • Maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Maintenance and repairs to the SCADA system including startup, cleaning of filters, and checking of various input devices.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson level Industrial Electrician certification, preferably with an interprovincial seal, or equivalent journeyman certification acceptable by the Corporation.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience troubleshooting diesel or gas genset electrical systems including the ability to set electronic governors and voltage regulators unsupervised in the field. Must have experience of setting up electronic governors for parallel operation. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Previous experience installing, maintaining, and commissioning of caterpillar and/or Detroit Diesel gensets in the range 150 kW to 1400 kW.
  • Ability to read and work off blueprints, as well as interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer\'s manuals and parts books.
  • NWT Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence (or equivalent) required.
  • Must provide a satsifactory criminal record check.
  • Must provide at least two supervisor references.
Salary for this position ranges from $52.18/hr. - $63.40/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $11,808 per year.
