Mount Pleasant Group (MPG) is a not-for-profit organization that has been caring for families in the GTA since 1826. It is made up of two affiliated companies: the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries (MPGC) and Canadian Memorial Services (CMS), collectively referred to as MPG. MPGC owns and manages ten (10) cemeteries and four (4) crematoriums across the Greater Toronto Area, while CMS delivers funeral services to its customers at nine (9) locations across the region. These include funeral centres located at several MPGC cemeteries, as well as standalone funeral centres known as "The Simple Alternative". We are looking for a

Cremation Centre Coordinator

to join our team at

Elgin Mills & Thornton Cemetery.



You may be required to work at Meadowvale and Mount Pleasant.

The successful candidate will be required to:



Cremation Operations



Receive human remains from funeral homes and transfer services, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with legal and corporate requirements. Perform cremations, including witnessing and processing of remains, following established policies and procedures. Finalize and scan cremation arrangements to maintain accurate records and support operational efficiency.

Ensure the efficient operation of cremation and processing equipment by adhering to scheduled maintenance procedures as outlined in the Cremation Operations Manual.

Service Coordination



Prepare the cremation witnessing room for services, ensuring it meets corporate standards and aligns with the family's instructions. Attend funeral services in the cremation witnessing room as required, providing compassionate and respectful customer service. Report mechanical issues promptly to the appropriate personnel and track resolution status to minimize service disruptions.

Inventory & Maintenance



Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of materials necessary for crematorium operations, such as urns, packaging, and cleaning supplies, by notifying the Manager, Cemetery Services of replenishment needs. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards. Provide timely feedback to management regarding maintenance and operational challenges.

Compliance



Conduct monthly audits of urn inventory, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy. Safeguard all urns awaiting disposition in accordance with corporate policies, ensuring dignity and respect for the deceased. Comply with all regulatory requirements established by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), the Ministry of Environment (MOE), and internal corporate policies

Additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the Manager, Cemetery Services.

Hours/Days of Work:



Sunday & Monday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at Elgin Mills. Tuesday & Wednesday - 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm with potential time adjustments based on business needs Elgin Mills. Saturdays 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at Thornton.

Qualifications



Two (2) year college diploma or higher; and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two (2) years of related experience Mechanical aptitude, along with experience or a willingness to learn basic mechanical tasks, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Ontario Association of Cemetery and Funeral Professionals (OACFP) Cremation Certification is an asset. Funeral knowledge or cemetery knowledge considered an asset. Compassionate and professional communication skills with the ability to provide a comforting tone when interacting with families. Good judgement and discretion. Thorough knowledge of corporate and provincial policies and procedures, and rules and regulations regarding cremation. Commitment to detail and accuracy. Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and organization skills. Demonstrated professional work ethic. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Ability to perform the physical activities (standing long periods & heavy lifting) associated with this position. Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
