The function of a Creature TD at Versatile Media is to be responsible for the rigging and enveloping an array of assets, from hero and background creatures to vehicles and props in Maya as well as setting up and running flesh-surface, hair, rigid, crowd, and cloth simulations in applications such as Maya and Houdini. The Creature TD wrangles rigs, sims, and deals with creature pipeline issues proficiently under the direction and guidance of the Creature Supervisor.

What you will be doing....

  • Advancing hero creature rigging and enveloping in Maya and in Unreal Engine.
  • Setting up and running simulations that can include cloth, hair, rigid bodies, crowd, muscles.
  • Troubleshooting creature rigging and pipeline issues for artists in other disciplines.
  • Scripting utilities, tools and plug-ins.
  • Optimizing performance of rigs as required.
  • Participating in reviews, dailies, and department meetings as required.
  • Mentoring and sharing knowledge with entry level artists, team and crew.
  • Special projects as necessary.
What we are looking for\xe2\x80\xa6.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant professional VFX experience in related discipline.
  • Degree in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of delivering high end VFX across a range of episodic television genres.
  • Past experience with the pace and production process of episodic television.
  • Expertise in Maya.
  • Ability to script using Python.
  • PyQt/PySide (Python for Qt) GUIs a definite plus.
  • Experience with advanced hero asset rigging and enveloping in Maya.
  • Experience with Houdini Vellum and crowd setups are a plus.
  • Experience setting up and running simulation shot work.
  • Experience in corrective sculpting.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and enveloping.
  • Thorough knowledge of an area of creature specialization and a broad understanding of rigging and enveloping in Maya, cloth, hair, flesh, rigid body destruction, crowd simulations.
  • Passion for the art of moving points.
  • Basic proficiency in another discipline -modeling, texture, TD, animation.
  • Proficiency with Linux a plus.
  • Familiarity with pipeline issues and a typical creature heavy post production environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to express technical concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to absorb feedback, notes and critiquing and translate to the required output.
  • Positive attitude and team player.
