CREATIVE ARTS WORKER

Adult Day Programs (Freeman/Mountainview)

Position Type: Temporary Part-time

(up to 12 months)

Shift Type: Day-Evening, some weekends (subject to change)

Hourly Pay Rate: $27.36 - $34.07

Bi-Weekly Hours: 45.5 Hours

Job Summary:

The Creative Arts Worker employs the creative arts as a medium to enhance quality of life and well-being of members of the Adult Day Programs (Freeman Family Day Centre and the Mountainview Club). The Creative Arts Worker is responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating the arts-based activities in the Creative Arts program. Aligned with the mandate of the Adult Day Programs, the Creative Arts Worker is responsible for developing and facilitating creative arts programs based on the expressed needs of members and works as a member of the interprofessional team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides innovative and varied creative arts-based programming for Adult Day Programs at Baycrest for in-person and virtual programing.
  • Documents program attendance, program goals and objectives, observations and evaluations of the programs on an ongoing basis, maintaining up to date program files
  • Assists team members in planning and delivering special events, (i.e. major holiday events/programs including creating decorations)
  • Functions as part of an interprofessional team, attends staff meetings and reports as needed on the Creative Arts program and on client concerns
  • Assists team in assessing new referrals and facilitates the integration of new clients into the Creative Arts program
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures for a safe work environment, including operation of equipment/kiln; maintains an organized, neat studio
  • Maintains creative arts supplies, inventory, and equipment in good working order
  • Initiates purchase requisitions with supporting documentation for supplies, equipment, etc., within program budget
  • Works with Volunteer Services and staff to identify needs and to recruit volunteers for specific activities, supervises volunteers in the studio
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Minimum requirement two (2) year College diploma in a related field such as recreation, activation or gerontology, combined with knowledge, skill and ability in a variety of creative arts modalities: Art therapy, Creative Arts Programming
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the development and provision of creative arts programming for seniors with frailties and mild to moderate cognitive impairment
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of dementia and Montessori Methods is preferred
  • Experience in supervision of volunteers/students
  • Experience in delivering virtual programing is an asset
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, holidays and festivals an asset
  • Understanding of Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, Hungarian languages is an asset
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel, PowerPoint required, and Meditech applications preferred
  • Experience operating a kiln preferred
  • Experience working in an adult day program setting preferred
