Job Summary
The Copyright and Scholarly Communications Office (CSCO), based in the UVic Libraries, plays a key role in the University's effort to adapt and support the evolving teaching, research and learning needs of faculty and students. The CSCO also has a role in aligning and strengthening the university's research priorities and impact by highlighting and addressing critical information policy and scholarly communication issues that impact faculty and graduate student research, including open access, copyright, and intellectual property rights. The CSCO provides concrete pathways to surface and disseminate research produced by the university community.


Under the direction of the Head, Copyright and Scholarly Communication, and working collaboratively with the Coordinator, Copyright and Digital Publishing, and the CSCO team, this position is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Course Reserves service. This role delegates Course Reserves work to staff and ensures efficient and timely delivery of course materials to create consistently outstanding service for instructors and students.


Job Requirements

Experience:




Must have a minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in a similar position, preferably in a postsecondary or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:




Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Knowledge and understanding of copyright law and content licensing practices, and ablility to apply policies and procedures. Experience with performing bibliographic searches, both print and online in Library databases. Advanced proficiency with computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, course reserves software, course management software, Adobe Acrobat, Banner, GOBI, etc.). Familiarity with online publishing and social media support. Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience is an asset. Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail, process documentation, time management, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and changing environment. Ability to work independently with limited supervision and resolve tasks and/or problems by exercising judgement, and employing critical thinking and/or analysis. Ability to work in a respectful manner with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills through active listening and appreciative inquiry, and open to providing and receiving timely, contructive feedback. Ability to train staff and library users with diverse learning needs and learning styles.




Specialized Knowledge/Education:




Secondary school graduation or equivalent. Some post-secondary education or work experience preferred.
