The Opportunity:
The Walking With Our Relatives program is a culturally grounded response team working in partnership with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) to create Pathways into Care for Indigenous community members who have experienced sexualized violence.
Ka Ni Kanichihk is looking for a warm, knowledgeable, and community-rooted
Counsellor
to join our Indigenous-led Walking with Our Relatives team working alongside Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and community partners. This role supports relatives who have experienced sexualized violence or intimate partner violence by creating safe, culturally grounded pathways of care.
What You Will Be Doing
Walking alongside relatives with compassion, empathy, and cultural safety.
Providing one-on-one and group counselling (up to 12 sessions) focused on healing, stabilization, and trauma integration.
Creating welcoming therapeutic spaces rooted in Indigenous knowledge, sex positivity, harm reduction, and consent-based care.
Working with relatives to build care plans that honour their goals, strengths, and preferred healing pathways.
Supporting relatives through referrals, transportation, advocacy, and navigating community, cultural, and clinical services.
Collaborating with the WWOR team, Klinic, HSC, anti-violence partners, and Traditional Healers/Knowledge Keepers.
Keeping clear, confidential documentation and providing follow-up after care is accessed.
Maintaining strong and consistent communication with relatives, community partners, and colleagues.
Who You Are
You are someone who leads with heart, integrity, and cultural humility. You understand that relationships are medicine and that safety and trust are essential to healing.
You bring:
Education in Social Services, Community Health, Counselling, or 2+ years of relevant experience.
Experience providing counselling or therapeutic support to individuals or groups.
Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, ceremony, teachings, and ways of being.
Understanding of sex positivity, harm reduction, decolonized practice, and trauma-informed approaches.
Ability to navigate community and clinical resources and support relatives through complex systems.
Comfort transporting relatives within Winnipeg.
Strengths in communication, organization, and file management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and databases.
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
