The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC) is looking for a compassionate and skilled
Counsellor/Advocate
to join our team. In this role, you will support
survivors of sexual violence

What You'll Do
Provide about 15 individual counselling sessions per week for survivors aged 16 and older of all genders
Facilitate at least one support group for survivors each cycle
Offer crisis support, advocacy, and accompaniments to court, hospital, police, or community appointments
Write letters of support or advocacy when needed
Take part in case conferences and work collaboratively with community partners
Make referrals to other services and strengthen partnerships across the sector
Participate in clinical supervision, professional development, and debriefing to support ongoing wellness and learning
About You
You are an empathetic, grounded professional who is comfortable offering both emotional support and practical advocacy. You believe survivors and understand how trauma, power, and oppression shape people's experiences.
You bring:
Post-secondary education in counselling, social work (BSW/MSW), or a related field,
with at least 2 years of relevant experience
Strong knowledge of sexual violence, trauma, and healing
Experience in crisis intervention, safety planning, and advocacy
Understanding of intersectionality and how systems of oppression impact survivors
Experience supporting marginalized or at-risk communities, including survivors who face barriers related to race, class, disability, sexuality, or immigration status
Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and volunteer training program upon hire
Hours of Work
Full-time, 35 hours per week
4 days in office, 1 day remote
Thursday: 11:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Some travel within Waterloo Region is required.

Pay: $31.50/hour (35-hour work week)
