Established in 1970, Aventa Centre of Excellence for Women with Addictions

is a leader in trauma-informed, gender specific addictions treatment for women. Through a multi-disciplinary team approach, Aventa delivers a trauma-informed curriculum researched and written by Dr. Stephanie Covington. Aventa's operating funding is provided through provincial and federal Governments; Aventa has been partnered with the Alberta government since 1971. Aventa is accredited with Exemplary Standing through Accreditation Canada.

We Need:



Aventa is seeking a motivated, experienced, flexible, Client-focused Counsellor to work as part of our incredible team. The full time Counsellor position is for our 7-week program. The position involves working with women who have complex mental, physical, social health needs seeking recovery from addictions. The ideal candidate will have experience in effective counselling, group facilitation, communication, presentation, and computer skills.

This position is for a primarily process therapy group, twice daily. It is not a lecture or psycho-educational group, but rather the sole facilitator of this group is expected to lead and facilitate therapy group sessions for 10-12 women.

With skill, compassion and professionalism, in conjunction to our trauma-based program, the Counsellor will provide addiction treatment programming that empowers women with addictions to change their lives.

As a Counsellor with Aventa, a typical day may include:



1. Facilitate process-style group sessions for diverse Clients, including Clients with concurrent disorders.

2. Provides individual case management and crisis intervention counselling to Clients. This includes information gathering, assessment, case planning, case conferencing, monitoring Client activities, strategic intervention, evaluation, referral, safety/recovery planning, discharge, follow-up, and crisis management.

3. Ensure proper documentation and management of Client files. This includes observing, recording and reporting on Client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy, completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of Client records.

4. Requests/Facilitates case consultations with relevant members of the team to ensure effective assessment, treatment/safety planning and intervention.

5. Attends team meetings and contributes actively to a positive and supportive team environment.

6. Participates in ongoing learning and supervision.

The Ideal Candidate



Qualifications:



Degree in a relevant human services field; current registration with a professional college is preferred. Proven experience working within trauma-informed care, addictions, and mental health settings. Experience in group facilitation. Commitment to the following Monday - Friday schedule: 2:00pm-10:00 p.m. except Wednesday and Friday 1:00pm-9:00 p.m.
