We operate in the fire protection industry in the Victoria area. As a family-owned business with a team of long-term employees, we are looking for an experienced cost accounting bookkeeper to be responsible for all accounting tasks, including procurement and sales team assistance. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Controller and VP. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being part of a team and involved in various aspects of business operations.
Responsibilities
Perform regular bookkeeping tasks, including:
Managing data entry using Dext
Monitoring accounts payable and accounts receivable
Tracking and adjusting inventory
Reconciling balance sheet accounts (prepaids, deposits, liabilities, etc.)
Conducting bank reconciliations
Preparing GST/PST filings
Processing bi-weekly payroll, managing group benefits, WCB and corresponding with CRA
Maintaining the general ledger
Assisting with month-end and year-end closures
Assist the controller in measuring weekly and monthly accounting and business KPIs
Handle procurement-related tasks
Support the sales team with follow-ups and reports
Assist in reconciling and cleaning up financial data in QuickBooks Enterprise in preparation for corporate tax filings
Help implement and maintain effective business processes
Perform additional administrative support as needed
Requirements
Certification & Education: Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) or a diploma or degree in accounting
Minimum 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, including:
Accounts payable and receivable management, collections, and reconciliations
Balance sheet accounts reconciliation, month-end closure and financial reporting
Inventory management
At least 2 years of experience in managerial and cost accounting
At least 2 years of procurement experience
Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication and project management skills
Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise and QuickBooks Online (experience QBO system set up is an asset)
Ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, including unreconciled transactions
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with team members who have full workloads
Experience working with businesses in the trade or service industry (fire protection, construction, or similar) is an asset
Experience in developing effective accounting processes and controls is an asset
