Overview
The Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining an accurate and properly valued perpetual
inventory while supporting all general accounting functions. This role involves analyzing
manufacturing costs, maintaining standard costing, supporting audits, and contributing to
continuous improvement within the finance department.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a multi-product manufacturing environment
using standard product costing systems.
Technical & Practical Skills
Advanced proficiency in
Microsoft Excel
.
Strong knowledge of
MRP systems
and integrated accounting software.
Experience with
QAD 2008
(asset).

Design and implement data tracking methods to determine actual manufacturing costs.
Establish, review, and maintain standard costs for all inventory items.
Determine appropriate overhead application rates.
Participate in ISO internal audits as part of the audit team.
Coordinate cycle counts and analyze results to improve perpetual inventory accuracy.
Lead and support the annual physical inventory count.
Analyze variances and discrepancies in revenue, cost of sales, and manufacturing-related
accounts.
Prepare monthly working papers, journal entries, and financial reports.
Develop and generate management reports for decision-support.
Assist with annual audit preparation and provide necessary documents to auditors.
Prepare annual transfer pricing documentation for management review.
Reconcile perpetual inventory balances and resolve variances through the manufacturing
process.
Assist in the planning of variable and fixed costs, including departmental budgeting.
Collaborate with operations to understand cost variances and drive cost-reduction
initiatives.
Track and report on cost-saving programs.
Conduct periodic evaluations of labor and overhead rates.
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and develop methods to reconcile estimated versus
actual costs.
Update and maintain standard costing.
Provide costing information for new projects and customer quotations.
Generate reports showing pricing, profitability, and key cost drivers.
Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and pricing records.
Record cost data and propose improvements for cost control.
Analyze product design changes, including material, labor, and machine requirements,
and determine cost impacts.
Supply manufacturing leadership with financial insights to improve plant performance.
Evaluate, record, and report plant labor including direct/indirect labor and variances.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements
Sitting:
Primarily seated work; largely sedentary.
Lifting/Carrying/Bending/Twisting:
Occasional bending or lifting of up to 10 lbs (files,
reports).
Manual Dexterity:
Regular use of computer systems and file handling.
