Vaughn Mills Packaging Ltd. manufactures and distributes oatmeal and other hot cereal products servicing businesses of all sizes across North America. We currently specialize in the formulation, mixing and packaging of private label oatmeal to the North American grocery market with our largest category served being single serve instant oatmeal and specialty blends. We are one of North America\'s leading value-added private label partners for retail brands bringing innovation and thought leadership to the hot cereal breakfast category. We offer the highest quality products and provide a National Brand Equivalent or better product. VM employs 30 team members and operates out of a 23,000 sq. ft. facility in Concord, Ontario.

Here\'s what you will do as a Cost Accountant:

We are seeking a skilled, cost accountant to join our rapidly growing organization. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing and analyzing product cost expenditures, prepare bids, and analyze production-related cost savings opportunities within the organization. The cost accountant will review existing purchases, processed, record data, recommend new cost-efficient and financially feasible cost options, and analyze purchasing costs. You will also work across teams to present and translate important financial information and assist in company audits. Regular reporting and be a key member of the standard costs and bill of materials management.

Duties and Responsibilities of our Cost Accountant:

• Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records
• Lead BOM cost changes and compilation
• Determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing and production activities
• Review costs for all inventory, labor, consumption and material purchases
• Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings
• Collect and compile purchasing, consumption, yield & labour data for analysis and improvement opportunities
• Prepare reports to interpret financial information regarding cost improvements for managers, executives
• Support company accounting procedures and processes for period end close.
• Analyze pricing and cost estimates for new business opportunities
• Participate in budget build
• SKU, customer level profitability analysis and reporting
• Compile documentation on standard costs and production costs
• Assist in audits and some general ledger entries

Here\'s what you will need to be successful as a Cost Accountant:

• University degree in accounting or finance, with a Canadian CPA, CPA in process, or path to CPA
• 3-5+ years of work experience as a cost accountant, analyst, or other relevant role in food manufacturing environment
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices as they relate to COGS, labour, inputs, etc.
• Demonstrate an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Familiarity with QuickBooks
• Advanced Computer literacy skills, especially with MS Excel
• Analytical skills with a keen sense of organization and detail
• Proven time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines
• Respect for confidentiality of information laws and local ethics
• Preferred: Expertise in activity-based costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products
