Position Description

Purpose
This job ensures Calgary Board of Education assets are protected through responsible corrosion prevention and maintenance of safely and efficiently operated HVAC systems.
Accountability
This job is accountable for:
Maintaining a productive balance between quality and quantity of work in an efficient and timely manner while demonstrating adaptability to changes in work procedures;

Performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislative safety practices and procedures at all times to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of team members, staff and students.
Major Responsibilities
Adjust inhibitors effectively to remove hardness along with other corrosion products from HVAC systems and equipment, and in doing so, acts as responsible charge ensuring that all Occupational Health and Safety and W.H.M.I.S. Regulations and Guidelines are strictly adhered to.
Works in conjunction with chemical suppliers as they relate to the corrosion management program of the Calgary Board of Education.
Arranges for in-depth testing of HVAC equipment when potential corrosion related problems arise to ensure the safe and efficient operation of that equipment
Routinely tests, monitors and adjusts the chemical treatment levels in hot water and steam boiler heating systems, cooling towers, chilled water and glycol systems.
Inspects humidification equipment for corrosion deposits. Checks, maintains and ensures the proper use of biocides in HVAC systems.
Analyzes corrosion rates in HVAC equipment and initiates corrective responses for the removal and prevention of corrosion deposits.
Ensures that regular corrosion inspections of hot water and steam boilers are completed and documented in accordance with the Alberta Boilers Safety Association.
Maintains records and ensures completion of recommended repairs and alterations of HVAC systems. Monitors temperatures, pressures, inhibitor levels and other instrument readings to ensure safe and efficient operation of HVAC equipment.
Maintains adequate supplies of water treatment chemicals, testing reagents and testing equipment.
Instructs and assists Facility Operators on the day to day operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
Instructs, within the CBE facility management program, water treatment courses and boiler inspection preparation procedures.
Provides assistance in the setup of emergency potable water supply. Ensures that potable water supply meets required government regulations.
Tests and makes necessary adjustments to all glycol systems annually to ensure safe clean efficient operation of glycol systems.
Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Qualifications of 4th Class Power Engineering (PE) Certificate from ABSA
A minimum of two years' experience in building/facility operations with a background in water treatment.
