Job Description

The WSIB's Policy and Consultation Services Division is a key partner in the organization's strategic transformation initiatives through its commitment to an open and transparent consultation process that supports operational policy renewal and development.


To help achieve our vision and mandate, we are looking for a Corporate Policy Lead to conduct comprehensive research and analysis in support of the development of a corporate policy framework and governance structure.


Reporting to the Assistant Director, this newly created position will also be responsible for developing/ revising policies, leading corporate policy projects and ensuring a collaborative working relationship exists with WSIB business areas and advisors.

Major Responsibilities:





Conduct policy research to formulate/recommend corporate policy responses/solutions which consider/reflect the WSIB's strategic plan, corporate goals, initiatives and programs, industry trends/best practices, and the competing interests and views of various stakeholders. This may include:

Reviewing statutes, regulations, directives; Conducting jurisdictional reviews Conducting literature reviews and critiques of pertinent research Accessing and/or requisitioning data from the WSIB's information systems and/or responsible business areas and/or external sources Identifying and researching relevant/emerging corporate policy issues; and Consulting with intradivisional areas and operating areas as well as influential stakeholder groups.
Contribute to the policy planning process/framework. This includes:

Providing policy guidance and advice to WSIB management, staff, and internal partners regarding development and interpretation of corporate policies, including confidential/sensitive policy content that is under development and/or review by business area partners and/or provides direction to all WSIB employees (e.g. Human Resources, Risk, IT, Privacy, Finance, Audit); Assisting in the development of materials to inform policy planning and alignment of same to other strategic and business plans; Administering the policy cycle to ensure operational plans achieve strategic outcomes and evaluating the outcomes; Preparing progress reports, briefing material, responses and corporate policy-related communications using a wide variety of formats and media tailored to a diverse policy information audience; Supporting continuous improvement of a policy evaluation process; Providing technical expertise on design/development/maintenance of corporate policies, guidelines and procedure documents for all types of corporate policy instruments; and Ensuring policies are relevant, clear, comprehensive, communicated effectively, and can be applied with transparency and consistency.
Develop policy project plans and manage projects from beginning to end. Facilitate, coordinate and collaborate with WSIB business areas to identify and address corporate policy implementation issues (i.e. impacts/risks relating to systems, work processes, human resources, privacy, security etc.) and assist the operating areas in ensuring appropriate implementation of policies.


Job Requirements:





Education:

University degree preferably in Public Administration/Policy, Business, or Law
Experience

3 years of experience in research and analysis, policy, planning or business (i.e. communications, strategy) Demonstrated independent judgment Proven analytical and problem-solving experience Project management experience Excellent communication and presentation skills Tact, judgment, political acuity Strong knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
