Job Description


Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in shaping the future of our city\'s transportation system? We are seeking a visionary leader to fill the role of Corporate Lead for the transition to a lower/zero emissions city fleet. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of planning, designing, and delivering a cutting-edge zero emissions vehicle fleet and equipment transition, complete with the essential infrastructure to support it.

With a focus on the to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Develop strategic plans to achieve climate resilience outcomes and implement a comprehensive transition plan to facilitate the adoption of ZEVs across our organization\'s fleet
  • Conduct organizational change plans and strategies and identify risk management strategies
  • Develop and implement a plan for phased replacement of the current fleet with lower/zero emission light and heavy-duty fleet and power equipment, to comply with City Plan emissions targets.
  • Prepare and facilitate corporate-wide strategic recommendations
  • Interface with other City departments, providing direction for subordinate projects to install charging and fueling infrastructure
  • Provide leadership in the following critical areas to be included in the transition plan: Charging or refueling stations, power grid upgrades, renewable energy sources, smart charging and grid integration
  • Lead the development of grant applications and other funding proposals to support ZEV programs and projects
  • Provide expertise and be the corporate resource on Zero Emissions Vehicles transitions
  • A high level of client service skills and political acumen is required to engage at all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure all legal, contractual, Occupational Health & Safety, Enviso or other legislated requirements are considered in the project development process
  • Lead the development of working groups and teams to integrate change management
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • University degree in business administration, operations management, strategic management, Engineering or other relevant degree (A graduate level degree in one of these disciplines is preferred)
  • A minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in a fleet environment. Two (2) of which must be progressively responsible supervisory experience
  • Expert level knowledge of overall fleet operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a scientific mindset and critically evaluate complex policy approaches
  • Experience with climate modeling, carbon budgeting, climate vulnerability and risk assessment, and energy transition planning in an urban context
  • Applies systems thinking, including viewing issues holistically and making connections between how work areas tie together
  • Ability to effectively interact, communicate, influence and collaborate with a variety of partners and stakeholders
  • Experience in contract management and procurement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent negotiation, problem solving and conflict management/resolution skills
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\'s license (or provincial equivalent). Applicants may be required to arrange their own transportation for use on City business, and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy.

Assets:
  • Experience working within a municipal or other large institutional environment would be considered an asset.
  • Certified Asset Management Professional (AMP) designation would be considered an asset
  • Professional or technical designations such as PMP or CPA or similar would be considered an asset.
  • Certification or coursework/training in project management, fleet and/or facility management, strategic planning; financial management; public administration; change management; or other leadership training would be considered an asset

Up to 1 permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $45.462 - $58.014 (Hourly); $94,924.660 - $121,133.230 (Annually)
