Position: Corporate Finance Accountant
Reports to: Manager, Corporate Finance
Position Term: Full time, Temporary \xe2\x80\x93 1 year
Primary Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Workplace Type: Hybrid


We are looking for a versatile accountant willing to assist in various financial aspects in a complex non-profit organization. The Corporate Accountant will be primarily responsible for the accounting related to donation processes including bank reconciliation. This role will also assist the Corporate Finance team with other ongoing accounting processes pertaining to the month- and year-end closes.

Duties and responsibilities

Accounting for Donations and Bank Reconciliation (50%)

  • Analyze & investigate accounting & finance issues by working with different stakeholders and taking actions to resolve the issues.
  • Reconcile and track cash received from all revenue streams prior to month end close, ensuring completeness.
  • Investigate, verify, and adjust any donation discrepancies between CRM, F&O and related sources.
  • Coordinate with Supporter Operations to upload and post, donation adjustment and direct deposit entries.
  • Reconcile revenue and accounts receivable, record any donation, accounts receivable and/or bank adjustments in F&O.
  • Record all credit card and bank related transaction fees.
Month-End/Quarter-End/Year End and Ongoing Support (25%)
  • Process monthly journal entries and reconciliation
  • Follow up on outstanding Bank Reconciliation and other Rec Items
  • Issue gift-in-kind tax receipts, investigate and resolve any issue with the tax receipting
  • Contribute to preparation of T3010 Charity Tax Return
  • Contribute to preparation of interim audit, year end closing, year end audit
  • Ad-Hoc Projects and problem resolution.
Accounts Payable Backup (25%)
  • Review and process invoices received from vendors, verify receipt dates and input them into payment system in a timely manner, route for approval
  • Review invoices and cheque requests from non-vendor for proper documentation, verify appropriate taxes allocation, proper coding against purchase order and non-PO invoices.
  • Monitor and resolve all account payable issues and administer all invoices for vendors and non-vendors.
  • Manage weekly printing of checks, EFT and wire transfers
  • Check AP mailbox and respond to queries from customers and employees.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-year financial accounting experience.
  • Detail-oriented, problem-solving and analytical mindset to solve business and accounting issues.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with diverse groups and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Be self-motivated and meet various deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of common functions and formulas.
Advantageous qualifications to have:
  • Completed Accounting designation or Accounting certificate.
  • Knowledge and practice of Canadian non-profit GAAP.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics F&O or CRM.
