Overview

We are looking for a Corporate Counsel, Privacy Concentration who wil act as dedicated legal counsel for WorkSafeBC\xe2\x80\x99s Access to Information and Privacy Department, providing privacy-related legal advice to the Access to Information and Privacy Department and to others outside the Department.

In this role, you will Provide legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (\xe2\x80\x9cFIPPA\xe2\x80\x9d).

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, your work location will be our Richmond office. We have a hybrid approach to work, which means you have the option to work from home on the schedule determined by WorkSafeBC.

What you\'ll do

  • Provide legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (\xe2\x80\x9cFIPPA\xe2\x80\x9d)
  • Review procurement process documents and service provider contracts to develop contract conditions related to data security and public body obligations under FIPPA and Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner guidelines
  • Advise on and conduct complex privacy impact assessments and access to information requests
  • Draft information sharing agreements
  • Advise on privacy-related legal risks and on emerging privacy issues, such as AI
  • Provide privacy-related training to the Access to Information and Privacy Department

Your background and experience
  • A lawyer who is a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia, with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.
  • Strong understand of privacy law and principles.

  • Successfully meet the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults
  • Confirm you\xe2\x80\x99re legally entitled to work in Canada
