BMO's Corporate Banking Mining ("CB Mining") team has significant experience with structuring, arranging and executing corporate financings across a wide spectrum of sub-sectors within the mining industry. CB Mining is seeking an Associate to join its dedicated Portfolio Management team.

The position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and has a proven track record of coordinating internal and external teams to meet both transaction and internal deadlines. The individual will be responsible for all aspects of the ongoing portfolio management of the CB Mining loan portfolio. The ability to work independently as well as direct the work of the Analyst with minimal guidance under time constraints will be a key differentiator of success.



The Associate will be a key contributor to all aspects of portfolio management in the maintenance of the CB Mining loan book. This includes providing lending expertise for normal course annual reviews and establishing credit facilities to support Trading Products, Trade Finance and Cash Management products. Duties include but not limited to:

Prepares credit documentation including applications, memoranda, presentations, etc. for internal and external stakeholders.

Summarizes diligence materials to identify key risks and mitigants and make coherent recommendations.

Reviews and completes compliance and trigger monitoring.

Monitors client, client industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect client's portfolio and business needs.

Coordinate with credit and operations teams for ongoing maintenance of the loan portfolio.

Maintain borrower credit files in an accurate and timely fashion.

Partners with the Corporate Banking Mining origination team and product specialists for accurate, detailed client information.

Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients.

Reviews and updates AML/KYC certifications.

Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

Ensures alignment between stakeholders.

Creates financial models to analyze client portfolios and anticipate client needs.

Uses financial analysis to proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell.

Generates updated financial models/ analyses as needed.

Analyzes/assesses industry compilations.

Applies appropriate technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses to support client deliverables.

Understand complexity of transactions and related risk (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).

Provides feedback on, and, supports continuous improvement opportunities.

Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.

Provides direction and feedback to Analysts; accountable for development and mentoring of Analysts, where applicable.

Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.

Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.

Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Typically between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Undergraduate degree has academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting with an outstanding academic achievement.

MBA degree preferred.

2+ years of corporate banking, rating agency, equity research, investment banking, financial advisory/consulting, accounting (e.g. audit or transaction services) or other credit analysis/investment experience at a financial analyst level.

Knowledge of capital markets, investment banking products and applicable regulations.

Credit analysis experience/ understanding.

Good knowledge of the organizational lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.

Demonstrates solid deal/transaction execution and/or project management skills.

Exceptional skills in quantitative analytics, financial modeling and credit analysis skills.

Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.

Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
