Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

Overview of the Financial Institutions Group

The Financial Institutions Group (\xe2\x80\x9cFIG\xe2\x80\x9d) Investment Banking group at Scotiabank provides comprehensive financing solutions and services to Financial Institution clients globally. We offer a full range of corporate banking, investment banking and capital markets products and solutions, partnering closely with all divisions of Scotiabank to deliver a coordinated approach across products and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day account management support
  • Structure, analyze and perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity
  • Develop recommendations for the appropriate course of action
  • Analyze, process and execute credit requests
  • Research credit and bank product requirements of existing and prospective clients
  • Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date
  • Monitor and follow for client compliance
  • Assist with the preparation of marketing pitches
  • Coordinate with various product groups within GBM
  • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with other lenders, legal counsel, clients
Skills and Attributes:
  • Business development capabilities
  • Assist with client relationship management and contribute to cross-sell activities
  • Maintain a professional approach in all client interaction
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills with concise rationale supporting recommendations and actions
  • High attention to detail with a sense of urgency appropriate to the situation
  • Strong time management skills and driven to achieve timelines and goals
  • Flexible to demands of work and viewed as a valuable team resource
  • Promotes cooperation, teamwork, and professional internal relationships
Qualifications and training:
  • BComm designation
  • MBA/CFA is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset
  • Financial modelling experience
  • Mining industry knowledge or experience is preferred although not required
  • Strong computer skills including the use of MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
