DIRECTOR AND HEAD, CANADIAN FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS GROUP, CORPORATE BANKING

PURPOSE

Directs and controls the effective execution of all Corporate Banking products and ongoing credit management within selected industries while ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Coordinates Single Product client coverage and determines Top Tier/Multi-Product client coverage in conjunction with Industry Heads in Investment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge;
  • Markets a range of credit/lending products and services to corporate and/or institutional clients;
  • Manages the loan portfolio to achieve financial and profitability targets and is accountable for:
  • Supporting the business to meet risk and return targets;
  • Growing the asset base in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s strategy and risk appetite
  • Industry portfolio risk and loan losses;
  • Working with Loan Portfolio Management to manage portfolio risk and return; and,
  • Exiting unprofitable relationships.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank\'s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank\'s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams;
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk; and
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
DIMENSIONS
  • Lead a team of four (4) financial institutions group banking professionals
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the capital markets, Canadian financial services, and corporate lending space in Canada with responsibilities for transactions abroad (U.S., LatAm, Europe, and Asia);
  • Responsible for the Canadian financial services loan book and the associated revenue; focus on growing the non-lending revenue and ancillary wallet with the Bank\'s financial services clients;
  • Responsible for collaborating with global partners on financial services parameters and limits;
  • Deep understanding of the Bank\'s credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is well-maintained and within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements; and
  • Responsible for annual Canadian financial services industry review, helping set lending parameters and strategy including portfolio sub-limits and industry trends.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • 10+ years of corporate and commercial banking experience
  • 7+ years of financial institutions experience in a corporate setting
