Job Title: Copywriter & Editor (Water First)
Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Wage: $61,800 \xe2\x80\x93 $75,190 per annum
Anticipated Start Date: Immediate
Location: Creemore, ON

Water First is a Canadian charity that partners with Indigenous communities across Canada to help address the water crisis through education, training, and meaningful collaboration.

We are looking for a Copywriter and Editor to contribute their expertise in creating written materials that engage supporters with our vital work and the Indigenous communities we collaborate with. This position will report to the Director, Development & Communications.

You are:

  • A communications professional with 5+ years of work experience in content marketing or copywriting, preferably in non-profit
  • A master at stringing words together into clear, concise, and compelling copy using different writing styles that appeal to our key audiences
  • A dynamic and creative self-starter with a diligent eye for detail

Wage: $61,800 \xe2\x80\x93 $75,190 per annum

Position is remote but candidates must be available to travel to the Creemore, Ontario office located at 10 Francis Street East to attend critical meetings 3-4 times a year.

What you will be doing:
  • Leading the written components of major projects throughout the year: quarterly newsletters, multiple program updates, major fundraising campaigns (including direct mail solicitation letters), articles for publications or blogs, and the annual report
  • Mentoring colleagues and program participants in their content writing for Water First
  • Editing and proofing work to ensure high editorial standards are met across all content outputs, including consistency in brand voice, flow, grammar, organizational tone, lexicon, and audience base
  • Writing press releases, informing, and coordinating media preparation documents to support Water First spokespersons for media interviews and contingency communications
  • Supporting customized acknowledgements, stewardship reports, and other related donor materials
  • Collaborating with program staff to interview Indigenous youth and young adults in our programs and community partners to gather content
  • Seeing projects through the whole creative lifestyle, from inception to deployment
  • Developing and maintaining a clear and consistent brand voice, adhering to Water First\'s communications guide and lexicon, as well as Canadian Press standards
Qualifications: What you will need:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or Communications
  • 5+ years of experience in content marketing or copywriting, preferably in non-profit.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal direction under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to create original concepts that result in compelling content and understanding of trauma-informed communications, as seen through a portfolio of work
  • Strong creative thinking skills and ability to think conceptually
  • Evidence of professionalism, judgment, initiative, tact, discretion, diplomacy, and creativity
  • Willingness to continually expand one\'s professional skill set, to learn on the job, and to respond to and thrive in a dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to travel to northern Indigenous communities approximately 10% of the time to provide program and communications support for program delivery
  • Collaborations with Indigenous communities would be considered a strong asset
  • Exceptional digital skills (email and social media) and computer skills: Microsoft Suite and Google Suite
