Summary
The Copy Editor is responsible for proofreading and copy-editing content for emails, brochures, websites, social media, blog articles, newsletters, press releases, print ads, posters, conferences/trade shows, fliers and other direct-response marketing materials. This person will also review marketing, media, or client-developed content to ensure brand consistency/standards are met, formatting is aligned to specifications, copy is up to date and grammatically correct, and materials are relevant to the audience. This requires a strong attention to detail, as well as a solid grasp of tone, editing, and writing for different stages of the marketing and sales funnels. The ideal candidate can collaborate effectively with internal and external team members to conduct thorough quality control and ensure consistency with established brand voices and style guides. The individual can quickly understand project requirements for day-to-day asset development and can prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines. This individual will work closely with designers, developers, campaign managers and stakeholders, as well as collaborate and brainstorm with other writers, occasionally support writing when needed, and help create and maintain internal resources and style guides.
Responsibilities:
Cross-reference information to ensure content is accurate, relevant, and up to date
Understand intended audience and where they are in the customer journey to ensure copy meets their needs
Proofread text and provide clear direction on content edits at various stages of the writing process
Review creative briefs and job tickets to identify purpose, and make sure requests have been met and all direction has been incorporated
Review assets to ensure copy is engaging, informative, actionable, and optimized for conversion
Apply consistency across all assets
Keep abreast of trends in content and style
Provide clear feedback and guidance to writers, with the ability to rework or rewrite when needed
Reference and follow style guides to meet the needs of partner brand preferences, style, and tone
Work in a timely manner to meet deadlines
Minimum Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or marketing preferred. Related fields and experience considered
3-5 years copy editing experience preferred
Solid communicator, collaborator, and team player
Experience working in marketing or advertising a plus
Experience editing a range of digital and print content (web, email, SEO, PPC, social, presentations, white papers)
Experience editing B2C and B2B communications
Meticulous and detail-oriented
Strong organization and time management skills
Ability to work in a busy environment juggling multiple priorities
Proficiency with applying the principles of AP style, with the ability to adjust or bend rules for marketing purposes when needed to different types of writing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Ability to remain detailed-oriented and focused when processing large amounts of text
Willingness to collaborate with a creative team of writers, graphic designers, and others
Strong computer skills, especially using Microsoft 365
Basic knowledge of legal issues involved in publishing, such as libel and plagiarism
Mastery of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and ability to make constructive suggestions
Knowledge of media production and communication a plus
As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable of minimum compensation for roles that maybe hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factor including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the State of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $65,000-$75,000.
