Job Description


Our client is an esteemed education institution, currently seeking a Student Accessibility Coordinator contractor to join their team. In this role, you will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver accessibility/accommodation services to the student body. This is a contract position during a departmental reorganisation, but there is long term/permanent potential for the right candidate.

Your expertise in disability management and fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, will be pivotal to your success.

Location: Vancouver, BC
Compensation: $24-30/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating accommodations renewal for upcoming term as well as accommodation services for incoming students.
  • Liaising and communicating with students regarding the status of their accommodation requests, via email or phone, as needed
  • Documents plans in file sharing system, Titan and the student management database
  • Manage and monitor the departmental email regarding requests for new and existing/extensions of accommodations;
  • invigilates exams for accommodated students etc.
  • coordinate note takers for students with this type of accommodation support
Requirements:
  • Must have disability management specific training and experience
  • Must have held responsibility for crafting accommodation plans and written agreements
  • Must be able to assess limitations/restrictions of students and creatively develop suitable accommodation plans that support accessibility to the institutions learning environment
  • Must be experienced in accommodations addressing ALL protected grounds under Human Rights legislation (i.e. medical both physical and cognitive, religious grounds, family status, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable in best practices in accommodation and accessibility services
  • Experience in an educational setting / post-secondary sector a significant asset
  • Actively participate in and facilitate committees by preparing agendas, taking minutes, following up on action items, conducting research, writing reports, and drafting memorandums.
  • Assist the HR leadership on special projects, including research on best practices.
  • Provide procedural administrative support and backup for other HR positions as needed.
  • Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) culture by staying informed on relevant trends impacting HR practices. Recommend enhancements to HR services in this regard.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
