Who We Are

SFU Government Relations helps advance SFU\'s academic, research, and community engagement priorities by developing strategic and long-term relationships with key government and community stakeholders. We provide clarity on the purpose and practice of government relations and encourage coordinated, strategic and collaborative interactions. We maintain a database (CRM), work with and report out to senior leadership on government relations and engagement.

About the Role

The main purpose of the role is to be a strong coordinator and respectful communicator with diverse internal and external audiences. The role supports SFU\'s senior leadership in advancing SFU priorities by working respectfully and collaboratively with senior leaders, colleagues, partners and stakeholders. This role is critical in supporting the organization with excellent and timely research, analysis and time-sensitive coordination of a wide range of activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Understanding of truth and reconciliation and importance of First Nations engagement as part of government relations.
Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (Humanities, Business, or Social Sciences) with one year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent research, report writing skills, and presentation skills, including the ability to produce concise reports and briefs in a timely manner with attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office, web publishing, and graphic design applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, etc.); use CRM, web development and multi-media applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain respectful, collaborative and inclusive working relationships across a diverse range of university departments and external partners (including government, First Nations).
  • Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion.

Additional Information

The assignment end date is 1 year from start date.
