Job Description


Reporting to the Dept. Head of Continuing Studies, the Coordinator Land Based Programming is responsible, as part of a team, for supporting summer, and completion coordination, and delivery, of Land Guardian and Indigenous Outdoor Leadership Skills Training programs. This position requires extensive liaison and connection with Yukon First Nations, small and medium indigenous enterprises, and land-based business operators in the rural Yukon to support learners and program funding deliverables. This position supports the Land Based Learning Team.

We are looking for applicants who enjoy working in a fast-paced student-centered environment and being part of a dynamic, community-oriented team focused on Land or Place Based Learning. Applicants should have experience working with diverse ages, groups, and backgrounds to accomplish defined tasks. The position is responsible for completing targeted program goals and reports while fostering relationships with FN governments, external agencies, and indigenous land-based operators to support the completion of Land Based curriculum development and delivery.

The preferred candidate will have a post-secondary degree or is working towards a degree in Education or other related field (business administration, community economic development, public administration, First Nation governance, Outdoor Pursuits, Sciences, Arts, or other), combined with experience in coordinating programs and people in an environment that is supportive for First Nation and other learners, has an understanding of skill development through cultural or ancestral teachings, rediscovery programming, Geo-tourism, mountain sports, outdoor based social enterprise, and is able to use typical outdoor power equipment including watercraft and quads. An individual who has close ties to community, has lived and demonstrable work experience (government - i.e. Lands or Lands Manager, Chief and Council, FN development corporation or work that supports FNs in the Yukon) that speaks to the aforementioned qualities will also be considered.
