Your Opportunity:
The Acute Care Coverage portfolio supports clinical services throughout the Edmonton Zone through the provision of alternate providers. Alternate providers can include Clinical Assistants, Surgical Assistants, Clinical Associates, Physician Extenders, Fellows, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. These alternate providers are part of the health care teams in acute care settings and often provide coverage after hours.
Description:
The coordinator works as part of a team to recruit, orient, train, and in consultation with the Manager of Alternate Providers, provide HR oversight to alternate providers. Each coordinator has a portfolio of alternate providers at various clinical services and sites. Portfolio management includes (but not limited to) being accountable and responsible for: In collaboration with physician leads at sites, prioritizing requests and coverage needs by understanding critical coverage needs of the clinical service. Engaging and liaising with physician leads and preceptors. Interpreting information to determine program needs, assess requirements and identify possible solutions to non-standard requests. Recruiting and orienting new alternate providers. Day-to-day oversight and evaluating progress of alternate providers. Oversee scheduling and payroll administration of alternate providers to ensure appropriate coverage in clinical services. Providing program expertise in AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, licensing and privileging. Timely and effective written and verbal communication including preparation of reports, briefing notes, correspondence and presentations. Strategic thinking: risk assessment, analysis of program and project issues and related development of options, strategies, communication and implementation plans. Critical thinking: analysis of complex scheduling and HR issues and use of judgment to determine the best of multiple options, strategies, communications and implementation plans. Developing and maintaining linkages with Provincial Medical Affairs to ensure adherence with common provincial approaches either in development or already established.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate in Health Services Administration or Business. Equivalencies in educational background and experience will be considered. Four to six years program management experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A broad understanding of a complex health care system as well as an overall understanding of AHS operational and HR processes. Skills required - program management, time management, problem solving, conflict resolution, communication (written and verbal), mathematical ability, computer literacy (solid competency with MS Office, spreadsheets and databases) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with the personnel management systems, payment systems and conflict resolution is an asset. Project management and process improvement skills are desired assets
