in the

Cumming School of Medicine

is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief

Coordinator

for approximately 18 months.


This position reports to the Associate Dean, Health Education, Research & Innovation. The Centre for Research and Innovation in Health Sciences Education will launch in September of 2025. The Centre is being established to enhance health and medical education scholarship in the Cumming School of Medicine. The Centre supports and facilitates educational research and scholarship, by providing services and funding with the goal to improve the quality and increase the amount of scholarship activities in health education research. Scholarship activities are critical to the CSM mission as they contribute directly to the pursuit of knowledge and its translation, which result in the improvement of educational programs and initiatives in the CSM.


The primary purpose of the position is to establish and develop infrastructure of the centre to support the medical education scholarship community. This position manages overall operations of the centre including service and unit activity development, promotions and communications, and liaison with the target audience in order to foster collaborations. This requires working collaboratively with the Directors in order to create and achieve unit goals, as well as with the medical education scholarship community in order to ensure that unit goals align with the needs of that community. This position is the senior operational representative of the unit, and is responsible for ensuring that initiatives are completed both under the direction and in the absence of the Directors.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Program Development and Management:

Develops and executes plans and implements services and activities that increase capacity for scholarship. This is based on consultation with the Executive Committee, and includes a consulting service, annual symposium, funding competitions, workshops, seminars, etc. Engages faculty regarding research interests and activities and maintains in-depth knowledge of the research activities of CHERI members Acts as a central knowledge resource and consultant for research funding opportunities and UofC research processes Identifies research synergies and facilitates the initiation and development of research networks by linking educational researchers Develops a business plan and annual updates to establish and achieve RIHSE's strategic goals

Strategic Development:

Participates in monthly Executive Committee meetings to discuss operations and plan future initiatives Makes recommendations for strategic initiatives based on current and projected resources and capacity. Identifies risks regarding proposed initiatives and adapts plans accordingly Writes funding proposals to pursue internal and external funds in order advance the CHERI agenda Maintains awareness of and pursues collaborative opportunities within the CSM to enhance strategic development of CHERI Builds relationships with and solicits feedback from the medical education community in order to ensure community needs are met

Administration, Analysis and Reporting:

Prepares quarterly and annual reports on CHERI activities for senior administration Collates and analyzes information on similar units nationally and internationally Prepares an annual budget and administers operating, research, and special event funds Analyzes and reports on evaluations of CHERI activities for purposes of future planning

Communications Activities:

Develops and implements a communications strategy for CHERI activities and services, and unit achievements including updating the website and building a social media presence Prepares presentations and reports related to RIHSE activities for internal and external audiences Liaises with faculty, the Research Office, and CHREB Liaises with other national and international offices for health professions education

Leadership and Administration:

Provides guidance to researchers on drafting research budgets and establishing research accounts Develops policies and procedures to guide administrative functions related to research, and to ensure adherence to effective operational practices Administer annual funding competition by preparing a call for proposals, recruiting reviewers, reviewing proposals for relevancy and budget, organizing review committee meeting, advising applicants of results, and promoting the competition and results

Qualifications / Requirements:



Advanced education/training in a medical education or education Minimum of six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge of health education research Experience with project management, budgeting, and development of strategic documents required General knowledge of grant application development required Experience working in a research area preferred Experience with strategic planning Proven interpersonal, leadership and project management skills Ability to work independently with limited direction and supervision, and a high degree of initiative Excellent written communication skills, with experience in report and proposal writing Demonstrated oral and presentation skills Highly developed problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work effectively under pressure to meet multiple deadlines Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, tact and discretion General knowledge of grant application development required Knowledge and understanding of University administrative processes and health education preferred Accuracy and attention to detail required Proven ability to work in a confidential environment Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, or equivalent technology, including database management Skills in coding, Excel, survey design, qualitative and quantitative analysis Skills in web design
