Join the City of Medicine Hat as a Coordinator - Business and InnovationFull-time, Temporary Employment (Up to 24 Months)Are you a dynamic and strategic thinker with a passion for driving innovation and revenue generation within the Parks and Recreation sector? Do you have experience in business operations and a knack for enhancing customer service and productivity? If so, we want you to join our team as a Business and Innovation Coordinator. In this role, you\'ll support the Manager of Business and Innovation in developing processes that bolster our department\'s capacity for innovation, while providing exceptional support to both strategic and operational plans. Help us make a difference in our community by enhancing the Parks and Recreation department\'s assets and increasing tourism and visitor opportunities.Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage operational plans for cemeteries, campgrounds, and regional parks, including sales and marketing.
  • Maintain contracts with third-party concession operators and ensure compliance with external agencies.
  • Implement improvement methodologies to drive successful process improvement initiatives, including special projects.
  • Carry out a wide range of business-related administrative duties.
  • Lead and participate in department working groups and committees (internal and external).
  • Sustain and evolve successful initiatives while developing new ones with the innovation team.
  • Research and support changes in operational practices and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Write and coordinate awards and/or grant proposals applicable to innovation.
  • Ensure superior customer service and maintain a positive image of the organization.
  • Liaise with leaders in the tourism industry for major special events.
  • Research and coordinate new opportunities to enhance or promote the department\'s assets.
What You Bring:
  • Thorough knowledge of sales and marketing of municipal assets, including campgrounds, cemeteries, and regional parks.
  • Experience in event bidding, hosting, and conducting economic impact studies.
  • Proven ability to work with the tourism industry to promote the department and organization.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract management, project planning, and execution.
  • Familiarity with food services and the ability to liaise with external contractors.
  • Leadership skills in people management, strategic planning, risk management, policy development, financial management, and stakeholder relationship management.
  • Project management expertise and ability to influence and champion change management.
  • Experience in funding development, community outreach, business, and non-profits.
  • Business acumen with an entrepreneurial spirit, analytical skills, creativity, empathy, and curiosity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suites, and other graphic design programs.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of municipal budgeting and procurement procedures and policies.
  • Advanced communication and interaction skills, both internal and external.
  • Capacity to work independently and make day-to-day decisions within the context of City policy and direction.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in business, innovation, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Five (5) years of directly related parks or recreation operations experience, including two (2) years of business operations experience and two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver\'s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management-approved training and education may be considered.
