The City of Victoria is seeking an enthusiastic Co-op Student to join the OUR DWTN revitalization program. As the lead for the Busking Pilot project, you'll play a crucial role in bringing vibrancy to our downtown core. You'll also support various OUR DWTN initiatives, including a temporary public art festival, placemaking activations, events, and beautification efforts for the shoulder season. Working with a cross-departmental team, you'll contribute to economic development, downtown revitalization, and community engagement. Your role will involve experimenting with new ideas, rapidly prototyping concepts, and iterating based on community feedback. A playful, curious mindset is essential as you'll be constantly testing innovative approaches to urban revitalization. While creativity is key, we also need someone with strong administrative skills to manage project files, coordinate logistics, and keep our initiatives organized. The ideal candidate balances a drive for action with attention to detail, ready to bring fresh ideas to life while ensuring smooth execution behind the scenes. This dynamic position offers hands-on experience in urban planning, event management, and public programming, making it ideal for students passionate about shaping the future of Victoria's downtown.

Work from Home




The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid, work from home arrangement in alignment with the City's Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.

POSITION FUNCTION




As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

KEY DUTIES




Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City's operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.



Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department's strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure 'shared learning'.

INDEPENDENCE




Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.


Problems are referred to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS



Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:




High School.


Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.


Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.


In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

Experience:
