Job Description


The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.
Under general supervision, the Electrical Engineering Co-Op Student will work on the design and development of state-of-the-art electronic equipment, and sub-systems. Co-op Students may design and build prototypes of complex electronic sub-systems and will compute and analyze test data, prepare reports and recommend design or other changes based on test results. Additionally, embedded microprocessor firmware development and testing may be required which may include the integration of our systems to other electronic devices. These are complex problems that require the analysis of situations and data that are influenced by a variety of competing factors. The individual must be capable of exercising sound judgment using defined procedures to determine the appropriate action. This position requires both written and verbal communication with both internal and external stakeholders. Wherever possible, the Electrical Engineering Co-Op Student will be exposed to the full design lifecycle and will be given projects with increasing levels of responsibility.
Typical activities may include:

  • Design, development, build, and testing of state-of-the-art electronic systems. This could include hardware circuit design (discrete, analog, digital, power, RF, fiber optic) or more software (embedded microprocessor, DSP, FPGA, and Labview applications for test);
  • Assist in the development of system requirements, provide input into methods of testing systems, design of test equipment and simulation hardware;
  • Design and simulation of circuits using the ORCAD software suite;
  • Communicate with suppliers and other engineers to ensure a feasible and practical design;
  • Perform testing (environmental and electrical) to verify components meet all requirements and criteria.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a college or University with a degree or course work related to electrical engineering

  • The successful person must be able to gain the appropriate Canadian government NATO security clearance and satisfy all requirements to be able to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects
