Title: Cook Type: Part-Time Hours: 14 Hours/Week. Shift: 8:00AM- 3:00 PM, Thursday - Friday Wage: $15.50 Organization: Munro Academy Early Learning Centre Location: 2 School Street, Sydney Mines, N.S, B1V-1R3 Company Description: The Munro Academy Early Learning Centre (MAELC) is a fully licensed Christian early learning centre serving Northside families through providing high quality, family centered child care services for children from 6 months to 12 years old within our community. MAELC cares for 8 infants, 18 Toddlers, 24 Preschoolers, and 30 School age Children. MAELC implements a blend of the Nature-Based Curriculum, Play-Based Curriculum and Nova Scotia Curriculum Framework: Capable, Confident and Curious. MAELC hours of operation are 7:30 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. Monday- Friday. Job Summary: The Munro Academy\xe2\x80\x99s Early Learning Centre provides a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack for all children in attendance. Our menu follows the guidelines set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Our menu plan runs on a 4 - week rotation that changes Seasonally and includes a wide variety of healthy and nutritious foods. The Munro Academy Early Learning Centre Kitchen Supervisor will plan menus that meet all regulations and follow the food and Nutrition guidelines. Train and Guide kitchen staff in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of snacks and meals. Maintain the cleanliness, organization and efficiency of the kitchen. The Supervisor will ensure proper food handling procedures, and kitchen sanitation procedures are logged and followed by all staff. The Kitchen Supervisor reports to the ELC Director. Responsibilities:
  • Plan seasonal menus on a 4 week rotation that follow all Regulations set out by the NSDEECD
  • Follow Nutrition Criteria set by the Department of Nova Scotia
  • Ensure food Safety
  • Ensure all procedures are being followed
  • Communicate with program educators to collect meal numbers before food preparation of each meal.
  • prepare, cook, and present a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack for all children in attendance.
  • Prepare food alternatives for children with food allergies and sensitivities.
  • Serve meals to each classroom on time, at the appropriate temperature and portions.
  • Collect the dishes from each program, clean them using the dishwasher, and put them away.
  • Collect leftovers from each room, store them properly or dispose of them in the large green bin.
  • Follows the guidelines set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
  • Follow the approved menus only
  • Ensure all kitchen log books (cleaning and temperature logs) are handled according to regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including all food storage areas
  • Make sure all thermometers are working properly
  • Ensure all food items are checked for expiration dates
  • Clean the entire kitchen and appliances throughout the day
  • Remove trash and recyclables daily
Skills Qualities

Qualifications:
  • Basic kitchen work experience, on site training available
  • No secondary education required
  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
