:QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate/diploma in food preparation
Two years experience in a residential setting
Safe food handling certificate
Knowledge in the use of food service equipment
Ability to organize work
Report crisis and conflict to Supervisor and Intake Workers
Diversity awareness and appreciation
Ability to work with others effectively
Ability to work under minimum supervision
Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
First aid/CPR certification
WHMIS training an asset
Clean CPIC - Vulnerable Sector Check
Must be supportive of the mandate and mission of The Salvation Army
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan (by check ingredients and items) and prepare meals in accordance with published menu
Prepare lunch bags, snacks and saved dinners on daily basis in accordance to the task list distribution sheet
Provide sufficient preparation for the next day's meal service, including pulling any needed items from the freezer
Inform changes of the menu to supervisor and update menu posted in dining room. Cooks must record the date, meal and reason for substitution
Ensure proper food handling procedures are followed in order from start to end of shift, such hair net, handwashing, surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, check for labels and food storage items, etc....
Ensure surplus food is properly cooled, stored and labeled with dates and cook's name at the end of the meal service
Follow guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitor practices to ensure adherence
Ensure Health and safety procedure are followed such as, proper footwear, use of safety gloves, cutting method, lifting procedures, floor sigh /floor safety, personal belongings stored outside of kitchen area etc....
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and service counter including floors, countertops, sinks, equipment such as, ovens, stove, fridges, dishwashers, mixer, steamtable, coffee machine, dishes used by cooks and residents as well as trays.
Report any health and safety concerns verbally and in writing to your primary supervisor immediately. If supervisor is not onsite, the person on-call need is to be contacted.
Follow the cleaning schedule provided to each cook in accordance to each shift task distribution
Make use of and decide on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
Accept and organize deliveries or products and donations accordingly
Add missing items needed for order in accordance to the menu
Ingredients will be provided for all cooks as per the order request. Personal ingredients are not permitted for shelter food preparation.
Store incoming supplies as directed, check and restock supplies in the kitchen and service counter as required
Complete shift duties from posted shift lists tasks and verbal instructions from primary supervisor
Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, sanitation, environment and infection control
Performs special catering duties as required for special events
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Agree with and willing to support ER's Mission and Values Statements
Maintain a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle while on Salvation Army property and on duty
Participate in all staff meetings by attendance and participation
Participate in all department meetings by attendance and participation
Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor and implement improvement in performance as directed
Participate in yearly formal evaluation
Represent Evangeline Residence in a professional manner at all times
Be punctual and work all hours scheduled, advising immediate supervisor when this is not possible
Be ready with working clothes and place personal items outside of kitchen area and food storage by storing personal items in the locker provided by management.
Cellphones to be used outside of preparation and serving area.
Participate in staff development as required
Work as an effective member of the Evangeline Residence Team
Adhere to Codes of Ethics and Conduct and Confidentiality Statement and all other Policies and Procedures contained in Evangeline Residence's Policy and Procedures Manual
Adhere to the City of Toronto Hostel Standards
Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and ER's Health and Safety Program
Eating and breaks should be taken outside of the preparation, storage and serving area by following the Staff Breakroom Policy
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.42 to $24.21 with a maximum of $24.99.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
