West Park Health Centre, a 70-bed long-term care facility, located in St. Catharines, is looking for a qualified Cook to become part of a dynamic Dietary department. The Cook ensures that our Residents are provided with nutritious and delicious meals, that are prepared and served with love. As a Cook, you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing all menus and prepare food and following standardized recipes and production sheets
  • Assisting with the responsibilities of the Food Services Manager, in their absence.
  • Monitoring quantity and quality of food supplies and recommending corrective action when need be.
  • Coaching Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities; assuming responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Food Services Manager, including staff replacements and service calls for malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintaining all required records and cooperating with other departments to meet resident needs
The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • Holds either a chef training certificate, a culinary management certificate or diploma, or it\xe2\x80\x99s equivalent, granted from a college that meets the requirements for employment as outlined in the Ontario Long Term Care Act;
For the safety and well-being of our Residents, the Cook will:
  • Possess a current Food Handlers Certificate
  • Successfully pass the tuberculosis (TB) testing
  • Obtain a current and valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police Reference Check
Additional qualifications:
  • Red Seal Cook Trade Certification is considered an asset, but not required
  • Experience in institutional large quantity cooking, preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proven ability to provide direction and lead others within a busy environment
