Description

The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.

DAYS & TIME:

  • Applicants must be available for a variety of shifts, including day, evening, overnight, weekend and statutory holidays

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works with Food Services Coordinator and follows the meal plan and recipes laid out for food preparation
  • Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Makes good use of and decides on the best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
  • May supervise students, volunteers, and/or guests
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months or relevant certifications.
  • Food Safe Certification up to date
Experience:
  • One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
  • Possess a valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificate or obtain prior to the end of the probationary period.
  • Ability to lift more than 20 lbs.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
