- As our Cook, you will work with the Chef to start up a unique experience for Acadian dishes, from June to September on Prince Edward Island. We encourage creative freedom to collaborate in designing the seasonal menus and developing the vision of The Acadian Kitchen. Gluten Free and Dairy Free cooking experience is a bonus. The Acadian Kitchen is owned and operated by Arsenault Sustainable Living, a not-for-profit corporation focused on supporting practices of wellness, healthy living, sustainability, and training courses in food nutrition and hospitality. The Acadian Kitchen - La Cuisine Acadienne is a tourist specialty destination, \xe2\x80\x9ccaf\xc3\xa9 styled\xe2\x80\x9d, delivering an Acadian market experience in food and cuisine. Here you\xe2\x80\x99ll find fresh local bar clams, oysters and mussels, along with other scrumptious Acadian dishes. - Full time/all year maybe available for the successful candidate Responsibilities \xe2\x80\x93 Cook NOC Code: 63200 - Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods - Prepare and cook special meals as instructed by dietitian or chef - Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers - Oversee kitchen operations - Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment - May set up and oversee buffets - May clean kitchen and work area - May plan menus, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies - May hire and train kitchen staff. Employment requirements - Completion of secondary school is usually required. - Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks or - completion of college or other program in cooking or food safety or - several years of commercial cooking experience may be required. - Trade certification is available, but voluntary, in all provinces and territories. - Red Seal endorsement is also available to qualified cooks upon successful completion of the interprovincial Red Seal examination. Other relevant information - Job Location: Cap Egmont, Prince Edward Island - Work Term: Full-time seasonal (June-October) - May extend to all year round. - Work Conditions: Kitchen environment - Schedule: up to 48 hours per week - Starting Weekly Salary: $1000 plus % of profits - We are a small organization but can support collaboration for Benefits on a case-by-case basis. Other Abilities/Skills: - French Language is a bonus (Acadian is a double bonus) - Friendly and professional communication skills. - Ability to take direction and work as a team. - Must be highly adaptable, eager to learn, and maintain a positive attitude. - Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail. - Knowledge of kitchen health and safety requirements, including safe food handling and storage, safe use of kitchen utensils, etc. - Ability to stand and walk for long periods; heavy lifting may be required at times.
