Job Description

St. Matt's is a place of hope where families, children and individuals most in need receive help to improve their lives and to increase their capacity to participate in the community. The Child Care Centre cooking program is to provide balanced, nutritious meals and snacks to individuals who access the program. Through positive leadership and role modeling, the Cook is responsible for carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position in accordance with the mission of St. Matt's.

Skills & Knowledge

3-5 years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen Ability to plan and cook for large volumes of clients Experience developing menus informed by nutritional requirements and budget Experience providing supervision and mentorship to support staff and volunteers in the kitchen. Completion of secondary school is required Food Handler Training certification required Completion of an apprenticeship for cooks is an asset Solid understanding of the Canada Food Guide Valid Certificate - Standard First Aid with Level C CPR Access to a reliable vehicle and ability to drive between sites
Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare and cook healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide Maintain a safe, clean, sanitary kitchen and eating area, meeting the standards set out by Public Health Plan menus in advance, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements (and costs), monitor and order supplies in a timely manner; Responsible for ordering, receiving and storing all food items Provide supervision and support to other staff and volunteers in the kitchen Prepare statistics on numbers of meals and people served in the programs Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment Wash and sanitize dishes and utensils; follows the Food Handlers Guide in the preparation and storage of food
Provide and maintain frozen healthy options for all individuals to be served as back up meals

Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers Transport, drop off and/or prepare food and snacks at other locations Complies at all times with the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe working environment
