Cedar Strong was established in 1994. At that time, the intent of the Agency was to offer a haven for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Our Transition House opened in a permanent location in 1995 and was officially named the Jean Scott Transition House. Jean Scott was a trailblazer for women's equality and was instrumental in the creation of our Transition House. The Transition House is the cornerstone of the agency.

The Job:
The position is to provide casual availability to support the cook and to step in when necessary to provide nutritious meals and snacks to our clients in our 2 Shelters.
Job Requirements:
A proven ability to work comfortably among individuals who are impacted by a variety of complex social issues
An understanding of Trauma Informed practices when it comes to working with individuals who have complex trauma and multiple challenges
Ability to prepare cook food for larger numbers, balancing quantity with quality
The ability to work within a budget, contribute collaboratively to build a weekly menu that balances budgetary limits with good, nutrition, tasty food and the needs of our clients
As needed, experienced in ordering the required food for the required period of time using the most cost-effective measures available
Establishing a weekly menu based on Canada Food Guide nutritional standards
Remains current on the changing demographics of the clients in all Shelters
Maintain a clean work environment and adhere to all Food Safe and Fraser Health requirements
Liaise with local food suppliers, promoting Cedar Strong to the food community so as to maximize food donation opportunities
Candidate Requirements
:
Experience in culinary cooking, ideally in a large production kitchen
Food Safe certification (or equivalent) is required
Able and willing to work a flexible schedule and react to a last-minute scheduling needs
Good organization and time management skills
Confident ability to respond ethically and respectfully to people and communities from all socio-economic, ethnic, religious, sexual-orientation, age, physical and/or mental background
Proven ability to work independently
Must be able to successfully obtain a criminal record
