The

Cook

performs, and delegates tasks related to the preparation of nutritional and appetizing foods in quantities required for patient, resident and staff meals; and performs other related and allied duties which contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of the Nutrition Services Department.

Duties include:

Determining quantities of food and number of regular and special patient meals to be prepared; Preparation of regular and special diet items; Supervising meal distribution and portioning during meal service; Ordering, preparing and cooking required quantities of various foods; Assisting with the cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment; Receiving deliveries, transporting supplies to storage areas and retrieving as required; Assisting with food portioning and serving; and, Assisting with menu planning and other meal planning processes; Assisting with orientation and training of new staff; Providing leadership, direction and support to nutrition services staff in the absence of the support service manager Staff replacement and work assignments; Baking; and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have successful completion of Grade 12 and successful completion of a professional cooking program from a recognized institution or Red Seal supplemented by a minimum of two years recent food preparation experience in a commercial or institutional setting where substantial food quantities are prepared. In lieu of a professional cooking program or Red Seal Certification, 5 years recent cooking/baking experience in a commercial or institutional setting where substantial food quantities are prepared may be considered The successful applicant must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions. Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record.

Salary Range:

$33.51- $34.39 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours:

30.0 Hours Bi-Weekly / 7.5hour Shifts / Days / Every Second Weekend.
