POSITION OVERVIEW

Bennett GM is seeking a Controller-in-Training / Assistant Controller to join our accounting team and develop into the Controller role alongside our current Controller, ensuring a smooth transition and long-term continuity within our dealership.


The successful candidate will begin by supporting core accounting functions such as deal file processing and month-end close activities, and will progressively take on expanded responsibilities across dealership accounting, financial analysis, and leadership. This role offers a clear growth path into the Controller position within Bennett GM, a stable, family-owned dealership serving the community since 1931.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Process and audit vehicle deal files for accuracy, compliance, and funding readiness Support daily accounting operations including receivables, payables, and general ledger entries Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting Learn and apply GM accounting standards and Bennett GM dealership financial processes Work closely with the current Controller to understand cash flow, floorplans, and internal controls Support payroll processing and administrative accounting functions Collaborate with Sales, F&I, Service, Parts, and Management teams to resolve discrepancies Gradually assume increased responsibility in financial analysis, reporting, and controls Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning as experience grows Maintain accurate digital records and support audit and compliance requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred Previous experience in dealership accounting, automotive administration, or a similar financial role is an asset Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn dealership accounting processes Comfortable working with numbers, financial data, and multiple systems Proficiency with accounting software and dealership management systems (or willingness to learn) Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Professional communication skills and ability to work across departments High level of integrity, discretion, and accountability
