Description




Our client is a forward-thinking, technology-driven non-profit organization operating in a fast-evolving environment. The Controller plays a critical leadership role within the Finance team, working closely with the Director of Finance to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and effectiveness of all financial operations.


This role oversees core accounting functions, leads a small team, prepares and analyzes financial reporting, and strengthens financial controls and processes. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, proactive leader with strong technical accounting expertise, a high level of accountability, and a passion for supporting mission-driven work.

What You'll Be Doing



Lead, mentor, and support a small accounting team to ensure reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities are completed accurately and on time Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture aligned with organizational goals Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc financial reports for internal stakeholders Perform preliminary variance analysis, account reviews, and budget-to-actual comparisons Maintain well-organized, audit-ready financial documentation and records Lead and support the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department leaders and project teams Contribute to the financial planning components of the organization's annual strategic plan Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related entries, and allocation of project costs Review and validate payments to project partners to ensure alignment with milestones and approved funding agreements Develop, document, and refine standard operating procedures in accordance with best practices Support enhancements to financial workflows, systems, and internal control frameworks Assist with compliance and funder reporting (e.g., ISED, CRA, and other funding bodies) Ensure financial policies and practices align with nonprofit and public-sector standards Oversee organizational risk coverage, including insurance policies Safeguard the accuracy and reliability of financial data across ERP and accounting systems Collaborate with the finance team to improve reporting templates and automation Support integrations with CRM systems and other business platforms Assist with cross-functional initiatives and take on additional responsibilities as needed in a flexible, evolving environment

What You Must Have



Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Professional accounting designation (CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) Background in public practice combined with 2+ years in an industry role overseeing full-cycle accounting Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
