The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking an experienced Controller to join our team in Vancouver, BC. This role will provide coverage while our current Controller leads the implementation of a new ERP system.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our fast-paced Finance & Accounting (F&A) department and ensuring continuity in day-to-day financial operations.

This is a full-time 18-month contract position.

What You'll Be Doing

Oversee daily financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, project analysis and treasury management. Identify and drive process improvements. Develop and implement financial policies & procedures and ensure alignment with organizational strategic goals. Collaborate with other functional leads to support operational and strategic initiatives. Identify and mitigate operation and financial risks, implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets. Ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulations; maintain current knowledge of applicable standards & regulation and communicate updates to stakeholders. Prepare regular management reports, consolidated finance statements in accordance with ASPE, and produce ad hoc reports as required. Coordinate budget and forecast preparation. Conduct financial analysis, monitor trends to provide insights for decision-making and track budget variances. Manage external and internal audits, including responding to auditor requests. Oversee monthly sales and use tax, NR4 withholding tax and annual tax filings. Lead and mentor finance staff, fostering professional development and team cohesion.

What You'll Bring

10+ years of experience as a Financial Controller. CPA designation required. Experience with joint venture accounting, cross-border reporting, transfer pricing, and tax filings is an asset. Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, MS Office, and financial software (Dynamics SL, Microsoft D365 F&O, and SAP Concur preferred). Strong presentation, reporting, and communication skills. Demonstrated expertise in financial forecasting, corporate finance, and information analysis. Excellent time-management skills and attention to detail, with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Analytical mindset with strong numerical aptitude and the ability to adapt to new accounting software. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results with minimal supervision.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $124,800 - $166,400. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
