Due to growth, we are currently seeking a
Controller - Real Estate
to join our TGA Management Services Ltd. team.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the CFO of the Company, the
Controller
will be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves, experienced professional not afraid to do what is necessary to get the job done right. The Controller must be comfortable in consulting regularly with the CFO. This role requires accomplishment of multiple finance and accounting tasks. The ideal candidate for this role must have experience in the Real Estate development industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare Group financial statements and all related activity and supporting the CFO and Director of Finance to create monthly and quarterly reporting, statistical/operational reporting, key metrics and analysis, statutory filings, and ad hoc analysis
Ensure timely and quality reporting and provide effective and precise information to the CFO
Provide the CFO with value added input through an understanding of the various business units to drive more effective planning and decision making
Management, supervision and mentoring of finance/account staff which include to property accountants, general accountant and accounts payable.
Prepare and review all journal entries required or prepared by the group
Maintain all subledgers and provides advise and training to staff as needed
Support the creation of advanced budgeting and cost modeling experience
Provide leadership to the collection effort and analysis of accounts receivable
Prepare and deliver performance appraisal for staff
Be the critical preparer of information for internal/external audits
Assist CFO with creation of annual company budgets, monthly financial reports, variance reports, and forecasting information
Control of documentation of financial processes/procedures, and oversight of their implementation, including internal controls
Support the Property Management, General Contracting and other divisions of the company with financial acumen being a key resource in supporting them in business decisions.
Drive improvement, uniformity and consistency in financial operations by ensuring adherence to best practices, policies and procedures.
Lead Yardi system upgrades, implementation and be the team's key resource on use of system
Instill accountability for results with self and all team members and other TGA Divisions.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Minimum 8+ years' experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented, senior accounting leadership role with real estate development industry experience
Professional Designation - CPA (or working towards certification) strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience communicating complex financial data to senior management as a true business partner
Ability to examine, develop, re-engineer and propose recommendations regarding financial policy and procedures to improve internal control, efficiency and oversight
Strong organizational skills
People management experience with the ability to coach, train, and lead direct reports
Knowledge of Job Costing required
Proven skill and experience with industry standard financial tools (excel, powerpoint, etc)
Advanced knowledge in an major account system (such as Yardi, Great Plains, Sage, SAP, etc) is required
