About the Role



We are seeking a highly capable Controller to lead the accounting and financial control functions for our logging and resource-based operations. This role is hands-on and operationally focused, with responsibility for job costing, production reporting, inventory, capital assets, and multi-entity accounting. The Controller will ensure accurate, timely financial information to support operational decision-making and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting



Oversee all day-to-day accounting activities using Adagio, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for operating companies and holding entities Ensure accurate intercompany accounting, eliminations, and reconciliations Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls appropriate for logging and resource operations

Job Costing & Operational Finance



Oversee job costing and production cost tracking by block, contract, equipment, and crew Ensure accurate allocation of direct and indirect costs, including labour, fuel, repairs & maintenance, subcontractors, and equipment depreciation Reconcile production volumes (m, tonnes, hours) to revenue recognition and cost reporting Work closely with operations management to analyze margins, cost variances, and operational performance Support contract pricing, tender analysis, and operational profitability reviews

Inventory, Equipment & Capital Assets



Oversee accounting for log inventories, work-in-progress, and cut-to-scale reporting Maintain fixed asset and capital lease schedules for heavy equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure Ensure proper capitalization, amortization, and tracking of major equipment and rebuilds Support budgeting and forecasting for capital expenditures and equipment replacement planning

Compliance, Tax & Audit



Ensure compliance with CRA requirements, including payroll remittances, GST/PST, and corporate income tax support Coordinate year-end financial statements and audits with external accountants Support resource-sector specific compliance, including stumpage, scaling, and related reconciliations (where applicable) Maintain documentation and audit trails to support CRA reviews and financial audits

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow



Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes Prepare cash flow forecasts aligned with seasonal logging operations Monitor working capital, including receivables, payables, and inventory levels Support financing, lender reporting, and covenant compliance

Systems, Controls & Process Improvement



Act as system lead for Adagio, including chart of accounts design, job-cost structures, and reporting Improve accounting workflows, month-end close timelines, and reporting accuracy Develop operational dashboards and management reporting Strengthen internal controls across cash handling, purchasing, payroll, and equipment usage

Leadership & Collaboration



Supervise and mentor accounting staff Work closely with the CFO, operations managers, and senior leadership Provide financial insight and decision support to operations and management Support a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Experience



CPA designation (CPA, CA preferred) 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in logging, forestry, construction, or heavy-equipment operations Strong experience with job costing and operational accounting Hands-on experience with Adagio (strong asset) Strong understanding of Canadian tax and payroll requirements Advanced Excel skills; ERP / reporting experience an asset Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
